Question about 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

I have a 98 beetle that appears to be leaking oil from the cooler. Is there a gasket that can be replace where the cooler mounts to the engine block?

Massive oil leak suddenly on 2000 vw beetle looks as though came above oil filter and awhinning pumpsound present


That's the oil filter cooler seal. My car did the same thing; poured a quart of oil out on the ground in about a minute while I was looking for the source of the leak.

There's a box with radiator fluid going through it mounted between the oil filter and the block to cool the oil. It's got a large o-ring to seal it, and when that seal goes, it just *pours* oil out. Take the oil filter off and you'll see a large nut. take off the nut and the cooler will slide off - you can do that without removing the fluid lines.

The seal is between the block and the cooler and will be very obvious when it's bad; mine was missing a big chunk out of one side. Popped a new seal in, put it back together and haven't had a problem with it since.

Any leak is not right. Try tightening the flange slightly - do not over tighten. If the leak persists the gasket will need to be replaced. I assume you are speaking of the automatic gearbox oil cooler.

Trying to remove oil pan from 1989 chevy 1500 350 eng to replace the gasket can you help me?


2wd Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the engine oil.
  2. Remove the oil dipstick.
  3. If necessary remove the exhaust pipe crossover.
  4. If equipped with automatic transmission, remove the converter housing pan and the transmission oil cooler line retainer from the bracket.
  5. On 1996-98 models, remove the oil filter and if equipped, the oil filter adapter.
  6. If necessary, remove the starter brace and bolt and swing the starter aside.
  7. Remove the strut rods, if equipped.
  8. Remove the oil pan and discard the gaskets.
To install:
  1. Apply a suitable sealant such as GM part number 12346192 or its equivalent to the front cover-to-block joint and to the rear crankshaft seal-to-block joint. Apply the sealant about 1 inch (25mm) in both directions from each of the four corners.
  2. Clean all gasket surfaces and use new gaskets to assemble.
  3. Install new gasket and seals.
  4. Install the oil pan.
  5. On 1988-95 models, tighten the pan bolts to 100 inch lbs. (11 Nm). Tighten the pan nuts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  6. On 1996-98 models, tighten the oil pan nuts and bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  7. Install the strut rods, if equipped.
  8. If removed, install starter, starter brace and bolt.
  9. If equipped, install the oil filter adapter.
  10. If removed, install the oil filter.
  11. If equipped with automatic transmission, install the converter housing pan and the transmission oil cooler line retainer to the bracket.
  12. Install the exhaust pipe crossover.
  13. Install the oil dipstick.
  14. Fill the engine with oil and check for leaks.

Yuo have engine oil into the coolant system.If your engine is diesel you have two opportunity.First is engine oil cooler/top of oil filter/ and second-cylinder head gasket.If petrol engine-only cylinder head gasket.Any way-change them.

What is causing the oil to go into the water


Possibly the tranny cooler ( if you have an automatic ) inside the radiator is broken and leaking tranny fluid into the radiator

OR worst case scenario you have a head gasket leak $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Oil and Coolant leak of about 11/2 quarts coolant - 1/2 quart oil per night Leak 1 (Coolant) Appears to be coming from the radiator bottom right corner. Leak 2 (oil) Appears to be coming from the engine...


The passenger right side of the car doesn't have any flanges for cooling system, if that's correct then your radiator has a leak or puncture.

The driver side of vehicle has both the in and out flanges for the radiator. Very common to see leak at the drain valve leaking (not closed tightly). In the same area would be bottom flange of radiator which the composite flange is degrading and causing the leak.

The middle part of the bottom engine compartment is where your oil/coolant cooler assembly just above the oil filter. A loose oil filter could be the cause 95% of the time and 5% would be a bad o-ring from the oil cooler to the oil filter flange.

Rather severe oil leak from the area of the oil filter


I own a '99 Isuzu Oasis, which of course is really and '98 Odyssey with Isuzu nameplate. 214,000 miles, Cranked it up yesterday morning after 20 to 30 degree temps that night....took middle schooler to class approx 3-4 miles from home and approx 1/4 mile from home- noted severe burning oil smell in cabin and smoke from under hood.. Got it home and observed 3-4 quarts of leaked oil on the ground where I had been sitting just 15 mins before. Thought for sure I had ruined the engine after seeing all the oil in the gravel. Could not believe the leak was so severe, considering this car still runs like a beauty and has shown no leaking or other symptoms in the days before this occurred. Got home later that day and checked filter thinking maybe it had loosened. It had not. Refilled engine with oil and noted oil not leaking or dripping but pouring through area at engine block and oil cooler juncture at filter area. Found this forum and a few others on line and followed the plan , AutoZone: loan-a-tool 30mm 1/2" drive socket is all you need to do the job, except of course the oil cooler seal/O-ring which I got at Honda for 3 bucks. Took me all of 45 mins...no need to dettach hoses and leak antifreeze, just unscrew the 30mm nut and remove the old gasket/seal. Be sure to remove all the pieces, Mine was hard and brittle and broken in 3 pieces. What once was rubbery/pliable would now snap like a pretzel due to age/wear. When I buy my next one of these, and I will, because it is the best vehicle I have ever owned ( and I have owned several Hondas and Toyotas) I will preventative replace this seal at approx 150,000 miles.... this was close to being catastrophic failure- Thanks to this forum and others for the advice-plan to put another 100,000 miles on this baby!

OIL LEAK COMING CLOSE TO THE OIL FILTER


if you had recently done or had an oil change done sometimes the gasket from the old oil filter sticks to the block. when you install the new oil filter it ends up with 2 gaskets and leaks around the base where filter meets oil cooler. another posability is the oil pressure sending unit is mounted just above the filter.

2001 cadillac catera: oil in coolant?


The Problem, My friend, is a leaking oil cooler. this item is mounted, inside the engine, under the intake manifold. The cooler or the connections are bad. Coolant flows through the cooler, if it brakes then the oil will contaminate your coolant and make a mess.!! Have it checked. Must times is the seals at the pipe to cooler flange connector. will need new seals.. Hope this helps.
