It could possible be your fuel pump. If your fuel filter is going bad that want stop it from starting. I have a 2002 alero. I done have both fuel pump and fuel filter go bad. so i have a little experience with them.

Why won't my 2001 Alero (2.4) start?

The most likely causes on the Alero are either a clogged fuel filter (which should be replaced every 30,000 miles in order to avoid damage to the fuel pump), or a weak or bad fuel pump. I'd start with replacing the fuel pump since it's the cheapest fix, the part costs about $20 at the Auto Parts Store. Here's a link to the fuel filter location and replacement:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_is_the_fuel_filter_located_and_how_do_you_replace_it_on_a_2001_Oldsmobile_Alero

The fuel pump replacement is more work and more money. The part costs between $100 and $150 to buy nif your a DIY, or about $650 for parts & labor at a repair shop. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank, so the gas tank will need to be dropped if the pump is to be replaced.

2001 alero. the car will not start i changed the fuel filter, fuel pump. and it still seems its not getting fuel to the enguin.

Have you scanned the computer for trouble codes? The codes will give you and idea where to look for the problem. You need to check to see if the spark plugs are firing. You can verify that it's getting fuel by pulling one spark plug and see if it has wet fuel on the tip. This would have to be done immediately after attempting to start the car. Let me know what you find and I can better diagnose the possible causes of the no start condition. If I don't hear back from you, have a Merry Christmas.

My 2001 oldsmobile alero starts, but when I go to take off it seems as it is not getting fuel, it drives very rough and is slow to accelerate. The fuel filter has been changed. Hooked up to a computer...

probably dirty injectors, most likely fuel pump.when the fuel pressure is low,it will idle fine but when you want to accelerate it will not get enough fuel

My 2000 Oldsmobile Alero does not start. It cranks fine, has a new battery, new spark plugs, and I can hear the fuel pump working. I was thinking of checking the fuel filter next. Much help needed

check for a good spark first, if there is none look at ignition circuits its more likley this part,
it could also be the car alarm the immobiliser shutting of the ignition ""stops it getting nicked?"
try resetting the alarm if you take off pipe to carb and there is fule pumping out!!! fule filter is "ok" for starting up on!!! take care working with fule!

How do I change the fuel filter for my 2000 Olds Alero and is this something that can easily be done. Also, if I can do this myself, where is the fuel filter located.

The fuel filter is usually located under one of the back doors on the underside of the car. Most vehicles require special tools to remove the fuel lines from the filter. Some cars merely use plastic clips to secure the lines. Make sure the pressure has been relieved from the fuel lines prior to removing the lines from the filter

2001 Oldsmobile Alero will not start. The car turns over but just will not start. Plugs are 4 mths old, tank is full of gas battery and alternator are working. Anybody out there know of anything we could...

you can also try pulling the fuel pump relay under the hood and put it back in. works on my 2000 alero. and yes if the security light is on, you need to turn the key on and wait about 10 min. until it stops flashing, then turn off, then start car.

Alero will crank awhile before it finally starts w/ more details

May have small fuel leak or fuel pump sending unit leak down. Or fuel pump psi low.

After 30 minutes try this turn key on. do not try to start wait 10 seconds turn key off then on again 10 seconds then try & start if it starts right away fuel system is losing PSI either back through the fuel pump or a leak in line. If you can find no leaks would suggest replace fuel pump & assembly.
Another possible but rare fuel injectors may be leaking fuel over time & dropping PSI needed for start up.
