U have lost the engine vacuum to the ac controls head. check fr any leaking or disconnected vacuum hoses under the hood at the engine intake manifold.

99 wrangler air (no AC) only comes out of defrost vents, no matter what selection the knob is on (ie.vent, feet, feet/vent, etc)..what causes this?

Defrost is default mode. You have an electrical/vacuum/blend door motor problem causing this issue. You need the system checked by a pro to determine the failure

Does the Erg vacuum solenoid cause the ac switching from vents to defrost

the ERG shouldn't have anything to do with what vents the AC comes out of, rather the dash switch that exists for changing from defrost to main vents to floor vents controls what vents are used.

on the controls for you AC there is settings that send it where you want, floor, dash, vent, defrost. choose vent. Also notorious for vent doors getting stuck from dirt, leaves etc going down the breather under your hood on top the rear fire wall down the holes and clogging the louvers so they cant switch over. check the setting but if not, this is really a job for buick. pretty complicated and risky to mess with for the novice machanic.

I have a 2004 chevy silverado 1500,and when all my switches are all turned off ac heater defroster inside there is hot air still coming out of my vents inside the truck and I have the vents all shut off...

there is a diverter door in the heater box that allows outside air to enter the cab this door can stick open when you change from defrost to ac you should hear this door flip directions

If all air is coming out the defroster reguardless of the position of the selector, you have a vacuum leak or a vacuum line is disconnected.

Air only blows outthe defroster vents on top of the dash

unhook battery, rehook battery, turn key on, ..............wait 2 minutes, then start truck and ck a/c. sometimes it works, if not, it will need to be checked by a shop .

AC/Defroster issue

On most vehicles the AC comes on when the defrost is on to keep AC compressor/clutch from seizing up from non use during winter months.

Heating / air conditioning control stuck to front defrost vents

There is a vacuum leak under the hood. Find the vacuum line on the passenger side where it comes through the firewall and follow it to the engine. You system needs vacuum to operate and without it the default setting is on defrost for safety reasons.
