Question about 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Conv

STARTS UP, RUNS ROUGH, THEN DIES

NEW PLUGS, WIRES, ETC. INCLUDING IAC, CRANK SENSOR, AND NEW IGNITION SWITCH. THE CAR OF COURSE DOESN'T RUN AS ROUGH WHEN STARTED NOW THAT THE LAWN MOWER CHAMPION PLUGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED (PREVIOUS OWNER) BUT WANDERING HOW OFTEN THE HEAD GASKETS NEED RESEALING AFTER READING OTHER POSTS. MY HEAD GASKETS SPILL A LITTLE WATER BUT THOUGHT IT WAS NORMAL FOR THESE WITH 14 YEARS ON THE ENGINES.

You have done everything almost. But find a bad resister that is shutting down your quad driver in you computer,You need to ohm them out the reading should be 12.0 ohms to12.4ohms.the top plenium will have to come off. this was a major problem in the late 80's and 90's.

Just put new altinaitor in my 1992 Nissan Maxima and it wont stay running if you turn the Ac on . The car starts to run rough and dies


Check your iac idle air control valve they have a habit of building up carbon just at the opening where the valve seats the housing! If no signs of carbon build up then check your exhaust gas recirculation valve! Somewhere there could also be a major vacuum leak or a hose disconnected! If none of those conditions are the culprit then your ignition switch may need to be replaced but first make sure it isn't engine components! You could have not connected the wires securely and only powering the ignition control module when in the crank position of the key! I hope this helps you out!

Check for vacuum leaks eg. PVC hose power booster and hoses around manifold area.

1991 Cutlass ceirra 3300 ,runs fine for short time. starts running rough,then dies/will not start again.changed fuel filter, then tested fuel pump.fuel pressure is good.what next ?


Check for spark when it won't start. If you have spark, might be your fuel pump relay, maybe the map sensor. If no spark, check another or all plug wires. If ignition isn't working, it could be Crankshaft Position sensor, Camshaft position sensor (or pick-up coil), ignition control module, coils, pcm, or the wiring associated with them. PCM determines spark timing after inputs from crank and can sensors, and sends ground signal to ignition module, cutting primary voltage to coils, initiating spark or high voltage from coil to sparkplug. All these parts have to be working right for ignition. All can be tested too. You'd need a digital volt ohm meter (DVOM) and a repair manual for your car with the test procedures. That Mitchell alldata-diy site has a special on subscriptions, pretty reasonable for a 1 month subscription, and excellent info and troubleshooting flow charts, wiring diagrams, etc.

code 17 is camshaft sensor error. a failed camshaft position sensor will show up in a number of ways. The worst-case scenario is that there is no spark in the combustion chamber. Other symptoms related to the position sensor can include excessively long cranking time when starting cold, rough running on an intermittent basis, poor idle, stumbling or hesitation, a drop in mileage and stalling upon acceleration. code 17 is for OBD-I system 1995 and before, OBD-II system 1996 and up. these symtoms can also be caused by bad wiring to sensor. good-day !!

It won't die when pulling the relay because it has another power path to the fuel pump through the oil pressure switch . Fuel Pump Electrical Circuits Description and Operation watch this video on fuel pump control , shows chrysler first , ford ,then gm . wait for gm an he explains the oil pressure switch . Plus when it won't start ,don't guess or theorize ! Test what's missing ? check for spark , no spark check ignition system , coil's , ignition module , crank sensor etc... has spark ,do a fuel pressure test etc... don't think computer , when it won't start does the check engine light come on with the key on run not start . If light is lit ,nothing wrong with the cumputer . If want to fix cars you really should take some automotive classes . Test don't guess .Watch some other videos crank no start videos etc...

So my jeep is in horrible condition and my bank accounts are beginning to look the same it had issues running frequent stalls now it will turn over crank and immediately die things I have fixed recently...


Stip by any good parts store (Autozone, Advance, etc..) and have an OBII scan done - they do this free. It will identify all faults that computer has tracked and will identify what is causing running issues.
