sounds like you have twilight sentinal which leaves the lights on for a set amount of time, you should have a dial in the car to adjust how long they stay on, usually right near the headlight switch.
it could be your cluster control next time it does it see if pulling it makes a difference the points burn out inside and it will sooner or later just stop working all together
