If you have the full VIN, you can type it into Google, and it will likely come back with a couple of advertisements for "vehicle history." They want to sell you this information. What is available without cost are basic vehicle info like engine, body style, year of manufacture, and perhaps location of manufacturing plant where it was built.

You can get using the entire VIN number only.
Enter the VIN (top right corner) in the link Shopping for Used Car

The 10th character in the 17-character VIN represents the vehicle model-year.
  1. This standard applies to vehicles built in or after 1981. ...
  2. Note: VINs do not include the letters I (i), O (o), Q (q), U (u) or Z (z), or the number 0, so that they will not be confused with similar looking numbers/letters.

Engine number vin

The vin number is an international system used to identify vehicles. It is like a bar code but in numbers instead of black bars . If you contact the car's maker at the customer relations department and recite the vin number to them they will be able to tell you what components were used in the build of the car from a bill of material used to order all the parts for the car

Replaced stock bcm with used. Was reprogramming with the method of turning key to start position (vehicle won't start) then leaving it in the on postition for approx 10 minutes until the theft lock...

A used body control can be used in a vehicle other than the vehicle it was installed in. the body control module when first installed is programmed with the vehicle vin number. the vin number can not be changed was it was written to the BCM. the oprions can be always change in the BCM but not the VIN number. basically the used bcm you have installed has the vin number from the vehicle was installed in, now the vin number in the used BCM doesnt match all the other control modules

I just got my car out the shop, i got a engine replace, but the vin number is not right on the recipe, 1999 cadillac deville, heads, engine kept gettting hot, thats why i replaces the engine but i think...

the vin number on the receipt maybe the vin number the used engine came from which is required by law. It shows the engine came from a car not stolen
Its the law to print the vin number on customers receipts for any used parts installed in their cars
