Question about 2006 Volvo S40

S40 with 80k- ac sucks!

I have the same issue. My 2006 s40 had a great ac. Then all of the sudden, it starts out cold then starts to blow hot air after a little while. I turn it off, let it sit for a little while, and then turn it back on. When I turn it back on, it is cold again. Repeat. I called the dealer and they told me they would charge me $130 just to check it and then the money wouldn't be applied to any repairs. So, I have been putting it off until I get a service. Everyone keeps saying it is the freon but I don't know.

I had the very same problem with my 2004.5 S40. I put with it for more than a year. I went to many A/C technicians all requesting hundres of $$ to look at it. Until I went to this guy, he look at it determine that the problem was the magnet that was not doing contact properly. Charge me $20.00. A/C is working fine( for the last 6 months)

Maito Saul: Let me put this as nicely as I can, since I don't know you... You're a f'ing *****.

You get resolution to a problem, then share it with the world by posting it on this site. Then, all you can come up with is "the magnet was not doing contact properly", and that it works properly.

Thanks for absolutely nothing you inbred. Couldn't you have mustered up anything else when you bellied up to the computer to post a resolution to this problem. Maybe some details about where the magnet was located, what parts were involved, etc.

    Thanks for nothing you loser.

It's the compressor... plain & simple. I have the exact same problem with my S40. Must have been a defective batch of AC compressor units for this year & model. Your problem is identical. Air worked fine for first 75,000 miles, and then "poof" all of a sudden the system will run with cool air for first five-ten mins., and then it's gone.
The issue is that the compressor is being forced off due to over-heating. You may have noticed that it tends to blow cool for longer periods of time when it's cool outside. In other words, the warmer it is outside, the sooner the unit will turn off.
In summary: don't waste another dollar on diagnosing this issue. Use it to put toward a new compressor- about $400 (new)

If you have a leak in the system all the freon would leak out. Purchase a can of leak detector put in engine. Directions on how is on the can. If this shows a leak have lead repaired and new freon added. Could be compressor going out. Bought one on Ebay for $100 vs $300 from Auto Zone.

Why does My thermostat Not switch between ac,heat, defrost . there's cold air coming out of vents but not cold enough to be ac. Initially when this started the ac was blowing hot air

If the air flow cannot be controlled from vent/defrost/floor you may have a blend door issue. This is an electric motor that operates a door in the heating system to control airflow. There are usually 3 motors controlling airflow direction, heat and recirculation. The Ac not blowing cold may also be another problem. If the AC is operational, the compressor will be engaged and the Ac low pressure line under the hood will bw cold. If this is all ok then a blend door issue should be suspected

My 2006 Chrysler Town and Country Limited has an air conditioning issue that even the dealership cant figure out...With the AC on and circulating and the van running it will begin blowing cold then all of...

your clue that it is ridiculously hot indicates that the problem is in the climate control module
it indicates that it is cycling the thermostat or you have a faulty thermostat that is cycling the climate control module
take it to an accredited ac specialist shop for a proper diagnosis

2003 accord air conditioner

This is a common problem when the AC system has a low charge.
If this is the case, you have a leak somewhere. Do not try to fix it yourself without the proper equipment.
