SOURCE: Belt Tensioner replacement

A simple bolt on assembly, the tensioner for the serpentine belt may need replacement if it fails to smoothly pivot and maintain tension on the belt.

Using a half inch breaker bar, release tension by rotating against the spring, remove the belt from the tensioner. Unbolt the tensioner (one bolt may be so diffucult to reach that you might want to use a racheting open end wrench by Alden.
Install the new tensioner by reversing these steps.
I usually replace the belt at the same time.

SOURCE: how to replace belt tension pulley for dodge neon 2002

The power steering and A/C belt is tensioned by a tensioner pulley. Mine went bad and was "screaming" I thought it was the power steering pump and I replaced it only to find that it wasn't the problem. I couldn't find any bolts and deemed it too much of a problem for me to replace at home. The shop had to drop the engine and transaxle assembly from the engine bay in order to get enough room to replace the pulley. The problem with many FWD cars is having enough room to work so if you have to replace it, the engine has to move because you only have about two inches of room otherwise.

Alternator belt tension?

alt belt has a slip torque adjuster. belt should be set to 1/4 to 1/2 inch deflecting pushing on the belt between the longest distance between pulleys. more than that will put to much tension on the belt and less than that will cause it to slip when wet or under heavy acceleration.

How do I change the serpentine belt on a 2005 dodge neon? there's not enough room to get the ratchet into the tensioner.

there is a tool that will fit I use a bar and push against the tensioner is easier but be careful if it slips . ouch also some breaker bars with swivel ( I use craftsman small breaker,it's thin and will just fit) will just fit down in and swivel into the socket. real pain I know.

How do u remove a tension pulley on a 2005 dodge neon

remove the belt, then remove the pulley, you may need a tensioner bar or sometimes a 3/8 ratchet will fit. when you instal the new one there may be a keyway or alignment dowel, besure it slides into place before tightening it down

2005 dodge neon the idler pulley went out. How do I change wthe idler pulley?

You will have to go to the tensioner pulley and put a wrench on that bolt and apply presure in the allowed direction and take the belt off...look first to see if there is a diagram of how the belt goes back on if there isn't write one down before you take the belt off...might be a good time to inspect the belt for cracks and replace as needed.

How do I replace the tensioner pulley on a 2005 Dodge Neon?

You have to remove the whole bracket that the tensioner assembly is attached to then you can get at the bolts that holed the tensioner and pulley together to service. Have fun.

Need to change alternator belt on 2005 dodge neon.

First you need to take off the other belt. Turn the tentioner (2), usually a 3/8 ratchet, and remove the belt.

Second, you need to loosen the alt tension bolt, almost straight down from the (1). Push alternator toword motor and remove belt. Installation is the opposite.

Hope that helps

Where is the water pump located. 1998 dodge neon

The water pump is driven by the timing belt. If its leaking replace it NOW. If the pump locks up, the timing belt will break and your valves will bent. and then the car will not be worth fixing. Replace the pump, belt and the tensioner. Dodge may have a redesigned tensioner and cover, buy all parts from the dealer.

How to tighten altenator belt on a 95 dodge neon . I see no way of getting my hands in there to do it.

You cannot tighten the belt. It is the Tension arm/pulley's job to do so. If the belt is loose, then it either means the belt needs to be replaced, its the wrong belt, its routed wrong, or the tension pulley/arm is bad.
