Question about 1997 Mercury Sable

1 Answer

The EGR insufficient flow was indicated, before I could get it looked at the car started ratteling and now it starts hard and rattels with the engine. It sounded like a rod to me but now the computer does not show the insufficient flow warning. Could this just be the EGR valve now in some way sorking and just ratteling with the engine?

2000 honda accord started missing code said insufficient egr flow removed plenum cleared blockwdge new egr valve pcm sent to be tested couldent be fixed so put in a new pcm still miltipule miss fires

multiple misfires are an indication of a fuel pressure problem/ injector problems
check fuel pressure , pressure regulator , filter blockage and fuel pump operation

I have p 1121 and a P 0401 codes on my 1998 ford windstar. are these related? what can I check? replaced the mass airflow sensor recently.

P1121 Ford Throttle Position Sensor Inconsistent with Mass Air Flow Sensor
http://engine-codes.com/p0401_ford.html no they are not related !
Are there any cracks in the rubber hose from air cleaner to throttle body ! That could cause the P1121 air entering after mass air flow sensor !
P1121 - Throttle Position (TP) Sensor Inconsistent with MAF Sensor The PCM monitors a vehicle operation rationality check by comparing sensed throttle position to mass air flow readings. If during key ON engine running self-test the comparison of the TP sensor and MAF sensor readings are not consistent with calibrated load values, the test fails and a diagnostic trouble code is stored in continuous memory.
  • Air leak between MAF sensor and throttle body
  • TP sensor not seated properly
  • Damaged TP sensor
  • Damaged MAF sensor
Drive vehicle and exercise throttle and TP sensor in all gears. A TP PID (TP V PID) less than 4.82 % (0.24 volt) with a LOAD PID greater than 55% or a TP V PID greater than 49.05% (2.44 volts) with a LOAD PID less than 30% indicates a hard fault. P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient Detected The EGR system is monitored during steady state driving conditions while the EGR is commanded on. The test fails when the signal from the DPF EGR sensor indicates that EGR flow is less than the desired minimum.
  • Vacuum supply
  • EGR valve stuck closed
  • EGR valve leaks vacuum
  • EGR flow path restricted
  • EGRVR circuit shorted to PWR
  • VREF open to D.P.F. EGR sensor
  • D.P.F. EGR sensor downstream hose off or plugged
  • EGRVR circuit open to PCM
  • VPWR open to EGRVR solenoid
  • D.P.F. EGR sensor hoses both off
  • D.P.F. EGR sensor hoses reversed
  • Damaged EGR orifice tube
  • Damaged EGRVR solenoid
  • Damaged PCM
Perform KOER self-test and look for DTC P1408 as an indication of a hard fault. If P1408 is not present, look for contamination, restrictions, leaks, and intermittents

not likely the PCM, engine computer. they seldom go bad.
report back findings.

AT START UP THE ENGINE RATTELS FOR ABOUT 3 OR 4 SECONDS LIKE THERE IS NO OIL PRESSURE

This might be as simple as an oil filter draining down and delaying oil pressure during cold starts.Recomend usage of Nissan factory filters as theirs has a built in check valve to minimize bleed down. Also recomend oil no thicker than 5W30. You may be also faced with a hydralic lash adjuster bleeding down causing momentarily loose clearance in the valve rocker assembly. This particular ratlle would be half of crankshaft speed which would indicate upper end rattle.

I am having trouble getting my check light to go off after I had it checked and the EGR valve was replaced. The light comes back on after about 15 miles of driving and the code reads EGR poor flow. I can...

Insufficient EGR Flow Detected

Possible Causes:
DPFE sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground
DPFE sensor VREF circuit is open between sensor and PCM
DPFE sensor downstream hose off or plugged
DPFE sensor hoses both off, loose or damaged
DPFE sensor hoses connected wrong (reversed)
EGR orifice tube is damaged or restricted
PCM has failed
And what sets the code is…….Engine started, engine running in closed loop under steady cruise conditions, and the PCM detected the DPFE sensor input indicated insufficient EGR gas flow. Run the KOER Self-Test, and if DTC P1408 is present, the fault is currently present. This code sets in 2 Trip(s). The light will stay on until the cause is repaired. A bad EGR valve is only on possible cause.

Hope this helps,

Dave
