Ok, the shifting problem is fixed(the OD Rod was still disconnected), but it still runs real rich and idles really rough under a load. I am at my wits end...

Try adjusting the carb. Screw in until engine starts to stall, screw out until engine idles. Check transmission filter.

88 f150 351w forever to start and when it does it runs real rough until I hold gas down for a minute then idle rough but will start right back up unless it sits awhile doesnt want to start back up

There are several possibilities for this problem. A "cold start" sequence is suppose to activate based on water temperature and the signal from the water temperature sensor. This makes the fuel rich and adjusts timing to make the engine run better when cold. It works like a choke only it is electronic.

There may be 2 sensors with one making the dash gauges work and the other doing the engine controls. If not 2, then 1 sensor would do the whole job.

Another possibility is an air leak in the fuel system which makes the system bleed dry overnight. It is far less common on gas engines but happens a lot on diesels.

Some earlier Ford engines from 1984 to I don't know when they stopped on trucks, would use a step-up solenoid on the accelerator bracket that worked off water temperature. Sometimes a bad water thermostat would make the temperature controls malfunction the other way (High idle, clicking, low idle) that would stall and engine as the temperature vary.

1984 FORD F150 PISTON COMPRESSON

you can use three different gauges and get three different results with a calibrated gauge the readings 125-165 with a no variance greater than 15 psi for smooth idle 25 psi slight rough idle. test calibration against a air compressor blow a air chuck into gauge and compare to compressor gauge.

Check the intake for vacuum leaks, use a can of carb spray and spray all over the gasket area where manifold mates to the cylinder head. If you hit a leak the engine will sound different. Also touch the EGR valve with wet fingers, it should be cool when idling, if it sizzles the water it is leaking and this causes a rough idle.

Idles rough has power f150

If exhaust is rich, you may have excessive fuel getting dumped into cylinder(s). A sicking or leaking fuel injector can cause this. How many miles are on the engine? Improperly seating valves can cause this also. Or if timing is incorrect.

Just installed a rebuilt carb. on a 1984 Dodge ram D-150, when coming to a stop it lopes and sometimes stalls, also when turning left it stutters and sometimes dies, worse when its been ran for a while.

You probably need to adjust the air/fuel mixture screws. Sounds like its running a little too rich. When you first start the engine, is the idle speed real low? If it is, then this is more evidence that its running rich

1993 nissian p/u run rich and it running real rough

If it is a carb engine have the air fuel mixture corrected by adjusting the screws on the carb. Try also adjusting the idling.

For EFI engines see if you can check the Idle Control Solenoid Valve, have it cleaned. You can also check the oxygen sensor if it is working or not
