Question about 2004 Chevrolet Impala

My husband is trying to change the rear brakes and he broke 2 lugnuts, how can he position them so that they fit into place? Is there a way that the disk that they go into can come off?

Should be able to remove the drum and knock out broken lugnuts and replace them

It could be the springs inside the drum, could be rusted and stuck or broke, take your tire off and pull your brake drums

Need to romove and replace sheared lugbolt on rear driver side wheel hub

remove tire...if it has disc brakes remove caliper/pads and rotor...if it has a drum break remove drum..Now take a punch and hammer and hit the center of the lugnut stud untill it pops out the back.put the new one in and get it tight with the lugnut.Replace brakes and tire and tighten that lugnut until it stops.Then check it in 500 miles

Where do i place the jack to change a rear tire

Hello, When you look at the panel under the Rear and Front Doors you will see a Triangle mark under each door. The rear triangle is under the rear door and the front triangle is under the front door.

There is a body seam about 4 inches inward from the triangle mark and there is a notch in the body seam for the jack. You place the jack under the body seam where the notch is and catch the seam with the groove in the jack seat. Then it is in proper position to jack up your car.

Remember to break the tension off of the lugnuts before you lift the car. Lift the car and proceed to undo the lugnuts with a minimum of shaking on your car. With a flat, jack the car higher than the rim on the ground so the inflated tire will fit back on the vehicle.

How do I get rear brake drum off?

You should jack up securely the rear end, and then remove the lugnuts to the wheels and remove the wheel.

Then, you may need a heavy hammer to tap on the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions of the rear brake drum to loosen it up.

Here are instructions from Chilton/Haynes manual:

Drum Brakes Brake Drums Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Rear tire and wheel assembly
    • Brake drum retaining clips (if equipped).
    • Brake drum.
NOTE: If the drum does not come off, further brake clearance can be obtained by backing off the brake automatic adjuster screw. Remove the rubber plug from the top of brake support plate. Rotate the automatic adjuster screw in an upward motion, using a screwdriver.
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Rear brake drum onto the hub assembly
    • Wheels
  2. Adjust the brakes as necessary
  3. Road test vehicle to check brake operation.

How do I change the front brakes

Jack the car up and take a tire off. You will see the brake caliper fitted over the rotor. You need to take the caliper off by using a 10mm socket, I believe. There are 2 bolts on the back side of the caliper that go through a rubber boot, one on top and one on bottom. Take those bolts out. Then the caliper should come right off. Don't let the caliper hang by the brake line. The brake pads are the flat 'C' shaped things that are on both sides of the rotor. Replace the pads. Then you will need a 5inch clamp to push the piston back in on the caliper. Position the clamp through C shaped opening on the front and the top of the clamp on the back side of the caliper. Be careful not to crimp the brake line. Tighten the clamp until the pistons are flush in the caliper and stop. Do not force the pistons in any further. Next, fit the caliper back over the rotor with the new pads on it and reinstall the 2 bolts you took out to start. Put the tire back on and tighten lugnuts accordingly. You will need to pump your brakes a couple times to get the pistons back out to the rotor and they may, at first, go right to the floor. Just pump them a couple times and they will get hard again. My husband is trying to remove the front wheel hub on a 1989 honda accord because when he was taking the wheel off he broke two of his lugnuts. Any ideas on how?

remove the spindle assembly from lower ball joint, tie rod end and strut mount and take it to a machine shop, hub and bearing is pressed on

My left back tire of a 1991 Lincoln towncar fell off & i was trying to replace rear lugnuts studs

remove all brake components off of that side, pound out studs towards center of the car with a hammer. place the new studs through the back of the axle and then use washers that just fit over the studs for spacers, and put the lugnut on the stud and tighten until the new stud is seated on the back flange of the axle. remove the lugnut and repeat for the rest of the studs.

Changing the rear disk brakes on a 06 toyota sienna, what is the process?

-Set up jack and properly block front tires.

-Do not set parking break as this may hender removing the rear calipers. Open hood and remove the brake resevoir cap.

-Remove hubcaps if applicable,

-Loosen Lugnuts but do not remove,

-Jack up van,

-Remove tire.

-Caliper should be visible. There are two bolts or hex heads on the back side that can be a pain to remove sometimes.

-Pull the caliper off the rotor, It is recomended to have the rotors turned or replaced. With the old pad still in place, take a c clamp or brake caliper squeezer and compress the caliper

-remove old pad, take note for the reinstall of the new pad.

-reverse the steps. This is a simple break down. Hope it helps

Broken brake line

Fixing a brake line is not hard, but first the question is where is the line broke... If the line is broke in the rear of the car or truck sometimes it is best to just replace that short peice of line with the screw in fittings on both ends.. On the rear of most cars and trucks the line runs to a tee and out of both sides of the tee a shorter line runs to each rear brake...You can find them at a ford dealer and the line will be bent to the shape of the line you are replacing with the two fitting on both ends.. sometimes its much cheaper to buy from auto zone or advanced auto parts..They also sell lines with fittings in bulk, so if you know how long and the size of the fitting they will give you a peice of straight line with the fittings on the ends and you have to put the bends in the line where needed... NUMBER 2 If the the line is broke on the long straight run from the front of the car or truck that runs back to the tee theses can be fixed with a compresion fitting.. This works great if you only have a pin hole in your line and cost only a few dollars... You will have to cut the line on both sides of the pin hole about a 1/8 inch and slide nut cap on first and next slide on the line ball on the brake line this has to be done on both sides of the broken line.. next is the center peice of the compresion fitting, gently pull the line apart enough to slide the center peice overthe cut line, now the same has to be done to the other side ... Once the the center peice is in place on the cut line slide line balls and nut caps to the center peice start to thread your nut caps on to the center peice tighten..

Tire Change on 2006 Ford Explorer

Kick the tire. Not only will it make him feel better, but it should come off. The center of the wheel is probably a tight fit where it fits on the 'hub' (where the brakes and wheel bearings are located. Kick the tire near the outer edge, continue all around 'til it comes off.
