How do i fill my transmission fluid in a a 99 jaguar xj8

There is no fill tube on either the 5HP24 (1996-2002) or 6HP26 (2003-2006) transmissions. They are both "sealed for death". By changing your transmission fluid you will prolong the life of the transmission. Jaguar only offered a 50,000 mile warranty, so they stand to benefit if your transmission conks out at 90,000 miles. The car has to be up on a lift (or at least on 4 tall jack stands) to check the fluid level or to add more fluid. Plus, the engine has to be running. You check the fluid level from the fill plug, and the plug is right next to the exhaust pipe which gets very hot. If you turn off the engine during the procedure, about 5 liters of fluid will drain out of the fill plug. Here's a video which shows the process for changing the fluid and pan on a 2003 transmission. The procedure is essentially the same for the 2002 and earlier cars, but there are some slight differences in the transmission internally.

How to check transmission fluid level

Most 1995-on VW models don't have a transmission fluid dipstick for checking the transmission fluid level. To fill and check the level of the VW automatic transmission fluid you have to remove a plug on the side or bottom (location depends on model and if you have an automatic vs. manual transmission) of the transmission drain pan. The factory manual refers the expensive VAG 1924 special tool for pumping the VW automatic transmission fluid into the oil pan.

What would be the signs of me needing a new transmission on my 2002 jaguar xtype. It stopped on me on the highway. Coast it to the shoulder and after that, wouldn't move forward nor backward

Is it an auto box? if it is have you checked the fluid level in the box? if low top it up, if not that then it could be the torque converter or the box that needs looking at.

My 2002 x-type jaguar is pausing for a long time before engaging to go forward. Reverse works fine

Check you fluid level in the Transmission.
I have had some luck using the Lucas brand of transmission fix it lube on some Ford transmissions. It helped squeeze another couple of years use out of the car.

Good luck

Where is the transmission fluid check ? my 2002 jaguar xtype is hesitating when I begin to go speed up, ie from a stop light. Im trying to check the transmission fluid but cant find the dip stick for it.

VERIFY PROPER PLUG IS REMOVED FOR LEVEL CHECK.

Because of the similarity to other plugs and fasteners on the transmission, the potential for loosening an incorrect fastener, instead of the level plug, exists. There is a risk for internal transmission damage if the improper fastener is removed.

  • Removal of the reduction gear brake band bolt can cause total loss of drive or a substantial reduction in the performance of the transmission.
  • Removal of the parking pawl rod plate retaining bolt (located next to the XYZ switch) will result in problems/gear lever movement restrictions.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Connect the approved Jaguar diagnostic system.
  3. Make sure J-Gate shift selector is in the Park position (P).
  4. With the engine running and the foot brake applied, move the J-Gate shift selector through "P-R-N-D-4-3-2" and back to the "P" position to circulate the automatic transmission fluid until the temperature reaches 30 to 40°C (86 to 104°F) on the approved Jaguar diagnostic system.
  5. When the automatic transmission fluid temperature reaches 35°C (95°F) check that the selector lever is in the "P. position raise the vehicle.

Need to check transmission oil

The LS is a fraternal twin to the Jaguar S-Type and both have a SEALED Ford transmission. There is no owner friendly (dipstick) means of checking the transmission fluid. There are fill and drain plugs on the transmission housing similiar to those found in a classic differential, but you have to access these from beneath the vehicle with the unit on a lift. Checking the transmission level with the car on ramps or a floor jack would not give you a proper reading as the vehicle would then be on a tilted angle and the fluid would not be "level" for a correct determination.
