I suspect that the light is supposed to be on when you are in OD and off when you are not.

Won't go into overdrive toyota surf

Have you tired replacing the Vehicle speed sensor, that is what signals the computer to shift into overdrive. The sensor is located on the side of the transmission case where the speedo cable is.

1990 4runner not shifting properly when cold.

hello, first you need to make sure the engine gets to operating temperature, maybe the thermostat needs to be replaced, if after that it still has the same problem the temp sender could be the issue here. It is located on a housing in between the cylinder heads near the firewall where the heater hose connects. there are two temp sensors, one for the gauge on the dash and one for the computer.
The dash sensor has a single wire, the computer temp sensor has a connector with two wires and is a green connector.

I have a 95 lexus es300. a o/d off light is on my dash and won't go off

That is called the OVERDRIVE OFF and yes it will affect you transmission. The overdrive is your highest gear, used for highway cruising and will promote the best fuel economy. You have an Overdrive switch in the vehicle. It is either on the shifter knob or on the center console/dash. It allows you to disable the overdrive if you desire. It sounds like you turned it off unwittingly.

NO OVERDRIVE

I had a similar problem with my 98 mystique when i bought it used. I had no overdrive and was lucky to find a honest transmission shop that found the problem. In my case the overdrive was unplugged. They plugged it back in,cleared the computer and changed my tranny fluid and i was good to go. You should be revving about 2400rpm at 65mph. The other thing you can check is to make sure that the wires that go from the overdrive button are not broken off or coroded.
