Question about 1998 Chevrolet Lumina

When ever I get on the gas in my lumina the air coming out of the vents stops till I let off or the hill I'm going up is over. Some times it also feels like air is blowing on my legs instead when this happens.

All indications of a vacuum leak. The blower door actuator is vacuum driven. A small leak would be enough for the door not to open properly or for the air to drop off when a drop in pressure occurs. To locate the vacuum lines, start under the hood, in front of the passenger side at the firewall.

It can be blown back into shape with an air hose and a rag. Sounds like a vent problem, check cap

When a/c is running why would air stop comming through vent and go through defrost?

The panels (or flaps, if you prefer) that are used to direct the air to the windshield, the panel, or the floor are operated by engine vacuum to be moved one way, and spring tension to move the other. When you step on the gas to climb a hill, or move out from a stop, the vacuum goes away (it is generated by the engine trying to get air, and the closed throttle preventing it from doing so), and the panels are moved into their rest position by the springs. So the air direction can change until the vacuum is reestablished to properly configure the ventilation directing panels.

On my Aries K wagon, the air comes out the defrost when I step on the gas.

I HAVE A 2005 FORD EXPEDITON AND THE AIR WILL NOT BLOW OUT OF THE FRONT VENTS/IT BLOWS OUT OF THE BACK VENTS AND THE DEFROST. ALSO I HAVE THIS THUMPING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR BACK PANEL INSIDE THE CAR...

I had the AC problem too, and they said there was a hole in the hose. They fixed it and now it comes out of the vents as it suppose too, but when I first accelerate to go up a hill, it stops blowing out of the dash vents. Once I have stopped going up the hill, the air starts blowing out again. Weird.

Acceleration no air, foot off gas air barely blows out vents

The vent is controlled by vacuum. Check the condition of the vacuum hose associated with the vent control. What is happening is when you decelerate, the intake manifold vacuum increases, and a diaphram is slightly pulled giving you air in the vent but very little. In normal condition the diaphram wont even pull. Solution is check for a vacuum leak in the vent control trace it coming from the intake manifold.

My 93 Lumina did the same thing and a simple tune up solved the problem. For whatever reason, the rear middle plug wire goes bad before the others.
