Pontiac sunfire died while driving gauges stopped working

Where did you buy the alternator? Charge the battery and have them both tested.

After highway driving for 2 hours and stopping for gas the car would initially start and then stall, it would run again until the car cooled for 30 minutes.

Sounds like your coolant level might be low. At highway speed you probably have enough coolant and with the air passing thru the radiator keeps the temp down, but at idle not so much. Or depending whether you have a belt drive or electric fan. Belt driven, could need a new belt.

98 F250 heat gauge in red, engine slows down, coolant level steady, rad cool. Had new head gaskets and head planed last Sept. new fan & water pump. What can be wrong?

I am a little confused here, you say the temperature gage is in the red but the engine is only at 140-160? Is that Fahrenheit?

When the heater is on and I am driving there is heat, however, when I stop at a light for a few minutes it blows cold air. What's up?

Your coolant level is probably low. When you are driving, the water pump turns faster and pumps the coolant into your heater core. When you slow down or stop, the pump doesn't turn as fast and can't get the coolant pumped into the heater core. Eventually if you don't fill it, you won't get heat at all, and soon after your engine will overheat.

You need to check your coolant level when the engine is COLD, or you take the risk of burning yourself. Hot coolant is under pressure, and will cause severe burns if you open the radiator cap when the engine is hot.

More than likely there is a leak that needs to be addressed. Take the vehicle to a certified repair shop and they can perform a pressure test (at little to no cost) to help you determine where you're losing coolant.

Hope this helps!!

Warnig oil stop but oil level fine.

When you say the oil level is fine, has it dropped at all in oil level even within the fine area?

Your oil sensor may faulty, or you may have a pressure leak somewhere since you said it occurs when you slow down (let your foot off the gas which will reduce the pressure). One known issue with golfs (hope it's not with yours) is that the rear engine seal often springs a leak and ends up leaking into the flywheel and transmission assembly.
