If you have good spart, likely the cps is good...Do a compression test.

  • BCautotech May 11, 2010

Yes, could also be cam sensor. Is this a new problem since the timing chain job was done or did it do this before?

If you have spark its not a crankshaft sensor.there are marked links on the chain 1 link goes on right cam 2 links go on left cam and 1 link on bottom.(arrows on gears point to links on chain and TDC #1 piston alignment arrow on oil pump)

if you dont have those aligned it will not start and may bend valves.i rebuild these exclusively.if it ran before, its something you did.

Dear friend-if you are positive that all the repairs were carried out with great care, that the timing is right, and you got spark and fuel, all the valves close propely, then it should start,if the sensor was ok before you stripped the engine why should it be faulty now.

Should i bye this car for 1,400 2001 Dodge Intrepid SE, great condition, new water pump, timing chain, transmission lines, cam sensors, thermostat, head gaskets, raditor, 0 miles on oil change, Eagle R...

If this car passes E-Test and doesn`t need much for SAFTEY test, then price is pretty good.
If this car doesn`t run why would you be intrested?? If it needs a timing chain/belt ,then stay away

I'm assuming that you are talking about 2.7L, the check this procedure...

Removal & Installation - 2.7L Engines
  1. Drain the engine oil.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
Crankshaft damper Timing chain cover Timing chain Crankshaft sprocket Oil pan Oil pickup tube and O-RING Oil pump

To install:

Fig. Oil pump mounting bolt locations-2.7L engine

  1. Fill the oil pump rotor cavity with clean engine oil.
  2. Carefully, install the oil pump over the crankshaft and into position.
  3. Install the oil pump mounting bolts and torque to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  4. Lubricate the new pickup tube O-ring with clean engine oil and torque the pickup tube mounting bolts to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  5. Install or connect the following:
Oil pan Crankshaft sprocket Timing chain Timing chain cover Crankshaft damper
  6. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.

2002 Intrepid: need to replace the water pump...

In the 2.7L V6, the water pump is driven by the timing chain. I'm pretty sure that in the 3.2/3.5L V6, it's driven by the timing belt. In both cases, it's a lot of work to get to, as you have to remove everything on the top (intake plenum, valve covers) and front (belts, pulleys, idlers, p/s pump, and timing cover) of the engine. Then, after removing and replacing the water pump and timing chain/belt, you have to make sure that the valve timing is exactly right, and reset the chain tensioner on the 2.7L.

A lot of work. Unless you're very comfortable with working on engines, leave it to a professional. You'll save yourself a headache (not to mention some busted knuckles). ;-)

How do i change the water pump on a 96 dodge intrepid

If its a 2.7L, you have to remove the intake and valve covers. You 'll have to remove the radiator core support and radiator. You'll have to remove the drive belts and balancer. Then you remove the timing cover and make sure the timing chains are lined up. The water pump is located in the middle of the front of the engine behind the timing cover. This job really isn't a good thing to attempt if your a basic home mechanic. This is a very complicated job. If the timing chains aren't lined up perfectly, you can bend every valve in the engine on start up. Then it gets expensive.

Just need timing belt diagram 2002 dodge intrepid 2.7 liter. I changed my plugs, car turns over starts for a minute makes loud sound in the engine, kind of back fires

your intrepid doesnt have a timing belt it has a chain. there are major problems with these engines, theres a big one with the chain jumping due to a tensioner breaking or a guide, heres a diagram for the chain setup.this is a very important setup make sure you use correct sprokets in the right place and also if it jumped timing il bet you may have some bent valves,1441a70.gif

Timing belt or chain

Ummmm woahhh hold up here...every 2.7 litre V6 i've been associated with had timing CHAINS. The chains ran the water pump and dual over head camshafts.
The 2.7l engine was manufactured by Mitsubishi for Chrysler and had an internal water pump with defective seals that allowed coolant to leak & mix with the oil causing severe sludging problems and eventual engine FAILURE...This has been a nightmare for Chrysler AND OWNERS !
MANY owners have contacted ISG Impartial Services Group 1-(866)332-3746 for a settlement with Chrysler
Attached is a cutaway view of the 2.7 litre, and as you can clearly see it is chain driven.
I've been a MOPAR enthusiast all my life...sadly, this engine was one of the worst to ever hit the streets.
Good luck Doug...i hope this helps.

I got coolant pouring from the most bottom of my crankshaft on a 96 dodge intrepid. The secondary belt that pulls the water pump and air is gone. I'd like to know what caused this and how much the repair...

If you have a 2.7 engine, your water pump is in need of replacement bad. It's located behind the timing cover and is turned by the timing chain. When the water pump goes out, coolant pours out in the inside of the timing belt and into the oil pan leaving the same water in the oil look as if you had a blown headgasket.
