Replaced relay. tested fuse. bypasses and tested fan by jumping it to the battery. It did kick on with the battery directly connected. But still will not kick on when car is running.

If you are in a hot climate and use the AC year round like I do, it is possible that the fan motor itself is worn out. My 2003 had this occur and it progressed to idling problems before it was resolved.

The motor has carbon brushes inside it which do wear out with use. The brushes are staggered (I dis-assembled mine as a post-mortem). At idle, both brushes are in use. At highway speed only one brush is in use. Directly attaching the battery gave it normal voltage - but much more current than normal. That is why it worked.

My solution is to replace the fan motor with a BRAND NEW one. A salvage part would work, but you run the risk of not knowing how worn its brushes are. New fans are available w/o the shroud and fan blade at many parts stores. Mine took a week on special order and cost around $150 for one with a lifetime warranty. Pretty straightforward to swap out - just make sure the wiring connector is correct before you disassemble the shroud. The replacement motor had the wiring located slightly different, but I was able to easily drill the plastic shroud and re-route the path of the wires.

Can not get the fan to come on by its self have changed everything {fan relays an the fan an the sending unit} I can jump / by pass relay but want kick on by its self

The relay is grounded by the computer when the temperature sending unit sends a signal to let it know the fan needs to come on. The relay needs 2 power sources. One will have battery voltage at all times ( possibly the one you are jumping ) and another pin will have batttery voltage with the key in the on position only. If either power source is missing, the fan will not operate

Radiator fan wont kick on

Your vehicle is equiped with a fan swith relay fuse, it almost look slike a hazard fuse. When the fan wont kick on the temperature sensor isnt letting the fan relay know it needs to kick on. Rreplace the fan switch relay its the least expensive place to start. I had this problem on my 2003 Taurus.

How do i bypass cooling fan relays to connect to battery

A common problem with these is the cooling fan relay that is on the drivers side frame rail close to the radiator ,and the actual fan assembly itself in witch case bypassing it would do nothing, unfortunately ,even more this is a expensive repair fan module is around $300.00 and the relay is about $150.00 and a pain in the rear to change at min- 2 hours labor!

Chrysler 2006 pt cruiser overheating

Check some of the simple things like coolant level and leaks under the car or under the hood. Then have your car running and observe the front Electric fan by your radiator.

When the engine starts to get hot, this Electric fan should turn on. You may also be able to have the fan turn on when you set your A/C to work. Different makers prioritize different controls and some offer a 2 speed fan design to help when things are really hot.

The Electric fan is suppose to be turned on by a temperature sensor. The sensor will activate a Relay which provides power to the Electric radiator fan. You can obtain a wiring diagram and a fusebox layout drawing by going to Autozone.com and registering your vehicle for free.

Once you have these diagrams you will know what size fuse the Electric fan uses and where it is in the Fusebox. You can take off the radiator Electric fan for testing or just jump some power to it to find out if it is bad.

For the rest of the controls like the Relay, you can use a Voltmeter to trace where the power stops, then fix that part. Remember that for testing the Relay, the Ignition should be on.

The next reason for overheating is a stuck thermostat in the water system. You would need to follow the big hose coming off the top of the radiator and running to the engine. The thermostat should be contained in this housing.

Finally, it is not impossible for the Radiator to go bad and clog up. But manufacturers using aluminum engine parts often have trouble free aluminum radiators.

Cooling fan quit running and i cant find relay

Relay may be ok, check the temperature sending unit that signals the relay to run the fan, it may just provide the ground for the cooling fan! Temperature sensor for the cooling fan circuit!
