Is the service engine light on? If so, check with you local auto parts store....most will scan the code free or loan you a scanner in their parking lot.

Will the check engine light come on when it is time for an oil change?

It may, but you should not rely on that. Change your oil every 6 months, or 7,500 miles.

What makes a engine sputter and quit and then not start? Plenty of gas. Just changed gas filter.

Did you check for OBD Codes?

Did you have a shop drive it with scanner,
& see if all the Emission Monitors have run?

Ever do any Preventative Maintenance, or just
drive your vehicles until you have problems !

Did you check for fuel pressure at the motor & spark ?

Battery Dead or worn out !

No one can guess at your vehicle issues-- without it-- to
do some testing, always been that way

2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0t when accelerating the motor hesitates and doesnt want to go. Problem prosist more going up hills. Check engine light is on not sure if its just an o2 sensor of if the cal co

Worn spark plugs, low spark power are a couple of possibilities but the demand for fuel is great when accelerating in the mid-gears and if the fuel system can't provide an adequate supply at the correct pressure during those conditions the engine performance will go flat.

Clearly the fact the engine light is on must be investigated, beginning with a code read. When the engine light is on the management computer has detected a problem that could affect the exhaust emissions and has switched to pre-programmed values designed to get you to the nearest dealer, or get you home.

It is always best as part of the diagnostic process to carry out any basic and routine maintenance that is due plus any other checks that might reveal pending problems that might cause further unreliability.

Maintanance required light on

turn the key to activate the power but not start the ignition, do this a handfull of times. The check engine light should blink a specific number of times, this can be referenced to identify the problem, after this happens the light should turn off until you have another problem! There's a difference between the "check engine" light and the "engine maintenance required" light (aka "Emission Maintenance Reminder" or EMR light). The EMR light is strickly a reminder that emission system maintenance is due. This includes the EGR valve, PCV valve, & Oxygen sensor. It is program to light at approximately 60,000, 82,500, & 120,000 miles. Because its activated by mileage, it does not necessarily mean that something has malfuction. Unfortunately, the only way to reset it is by using a diagnostic scan tool. Of course, you could always remove the bulb.

Check engine light with low emission code for catalytic converter

Check the fuel pump pressure. should be between 60 to 66 psi. There isn't an easy answer for this one. You may need to perform component testing and a diagnostic check.
