Yes, the motor mount must come off to replace the serpentine belt on the 3.0 6 cylinder motors. Not as daunting a task as it may seem, just requires a jack and block of wood under the oil pan to support the motor.

I have a 1997 saab 900 turbo...the serp belt just blew in it while in, I heard some metal noises as it happened, and was able to shut it off ASAP...the belt looks new, any ideas? What was the metal noise?...

It is very likely you have damaged the engine, the reason for it going could be a few things but if the belt was quite new then it may not have been fitted properly, the metal noise could have been the tensioners giving in or the pulley wheel rattling loose, have you investiagted the engine yet?

Firt thing to do is remove the cam cover and see whats going on araound the belt.

get back to me for more info once you have looked.

Serpentine belt diagram

The serpentine belt routing should be labeled on your radiator shroud. Look around the engine compartment like the hood or radiator fram suport and there should be a label with the the belt routing.
Good luck and hope this helps

I need an engine diagram for a 1995 saab 900 se V6

A SAAB dealer should be able to print one out for you. BTW that engine is practically identical to the V6 used in a caddy Catera, and Saturn Ion. Those diagrams would be the same, so you might want to search that also.

Motor and trans mount replacements

The part number for the trans mount is the same for the 2, 2.3 and 2.5 liter engines. It is 4356184. It is $51.00 for the aftermarket Febi/Bilstein and $125.52 for the OEM Saab part. The 2.3 liter mount you want to use will work, but only if it came off an auto trans. car. Additional infor available on SaabSite: http://www.thesaabsite.com/900new/NG900mounts.htm

My fan belt is loose on my 97 saab

The Saab accessory drive belt is self-tensioning by means of a tensioning pulley. The excessive play means that your current belt is spent and must be replaced. It is a very good idea to replace this pulley at this time as the bearings fail over time. You can get an aftermarket pulley of machined billet aluminum construction with a repalceable bearing race from Wazee Pulleys. This pulley is superior to the stock one in just about every conceivable way. You will need a 1/2 inch socket extension bar that will fit exactly in the top of the tensioning pulley housing and a six mm allen key. This site shows the proper routing of the stock belt and the routing procedure to bypass the highly failure prone center idler pulley if you so elect, as well as the procedure to remove and fit a new belt. Note, the belts shown on this site are for the short-belt modification only. The stock replacement belt is Part Code: 4904728 Brand: sm_bb8ca689-80fc-49cb-b9fd-7280758bc3c4.gif
Description: Serpentine belt for any 94-98 NG 900 4cyl.

Price: $35.90 at Eeuroparts.com.

I hope you put the timing belt in correctly. If you did not, the valves are bent.
