Question about 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

I have a high pitched noise which appears to be coming from front right engine compartment (as you are looking at the engine) which sounds kind of like a belt that is squealing. It is intermittent. Just bought car 3 weeks ago and no check engine light. +

Could be several things. WHICH ENGINE?.. 4 cylinder (has three belts, power steering/water pump, alternator & A/C compressor, one tensioner pully A/C compressor), The V6 2.7 (has only one belt, 1 Idler pully and 1 tensioner pully), the V6 3.5 has two belts - A/C/alternator, and power steering - there are two tensioner pullys). Noises can be caused by the belt(s) themselves, pullys, bearings, pully bearings, water pump shaft bearings (or belts/pullys rubbing up against something). Let's not forget that there is also belt(s) behind the Timing Belt cover as well as pullys and bearings associated with the timing system. You could start by removing one accy drive belt at a time (alternator, water pump, compressor, power steering, etc) to see whether or not the noise goes away in each case. If after each case, you discover the noise is still there, it's probably behind the timing belt cover (idler/tensioner pully, water pump shaft bearing, crankshaft bearing, etc.). Good Luck

Have you checked your transmission filter? A clogged filter may cause the pump to cavitate -- causing a constant high-pitch whine in the engine compartment. It won't matter if the AC is on or off, and it will whine at any speed. It won't be intermittent.

A belt on my 2004 Santa Fe was starting to make a lot of noise, so garage replaced it. Then immediately it began making a high pitched steady whining noise--whenever I touch the gas pedal. I took it to mechanic again, about six months later, and he said the balancer needed replacing, and he also went ahead and replaced timing belt. It still made the noise. He though it was alternator, so he ordered it, put it on, and took it off as it was not the alternator. Is there something specific I should be looking for? My power steering seems just fine, but perhaps water pump??

03 nissan altima high pitch whine from engine

I assume that you have a 6cyl engine, noise came from both worned secondary timing chain tenssioner shoes, just replace those two and while you have them all apart, also replace main tenssioner and guide, then all noises will go away. Good luck!

I'm hearing a load bearing noise from the engine, I thought it was my water pump, but it's not

i had a problem with my compass when it was new. at first there was a nice kinda high pitched sound coming from the engine compartment. it was not loud so i ignored it. after a while the sound seemed to get louder and not even, kind of like a loud squeak. it will come and go. and yes it was the water pump. the dealer replaced it and no more noise after that.

My car is making a high pitched noise from the front right tyre when I go over 45mph, just bought the this used car last week, is a daewoo lanoo 2000? ANy help is appreciated

This high-pitched noise sounds to me like the right-front brake pads. They are most likely semi-metallic brake pads. You may want to remove the tyre and inspect the pads first for excessive wear. If they appear worn, of course, replace them. If they are not too worn, you may want to apply some disc brake anti-squeal spray to the backing plate of the outer brake pad. Another thing to consider, is to switch the pads out with ceramic pads. They last longer, are quiet, and don't create as much brake dust, especially if you have mag wheels that you're trying to keep clean.

Of course, without hearing the noise for myself, I can't EXACTLY determine the nature of it, but this is the first place I would look. Please let me know if you need any further assistance! :) -Jason

High pitch whistling noise in engine compartment of 2005 envoy

There may be a small hole or cut in a vacum line or possibly just loose. Also make sure the air filter box and the big hose to it are secure and clamps etc are tight. Pulleys and belts can make a high pitch sound also.

High pitch noise from engine compartment in 2003 Subaru Fores

There is a little beeper that sits just behind the front grill close to the Subaru emblem. It makes the sound you hear when you press the remote to lock or unlock the doors. It sometimes whines for a while but eventually stops. I have had this for a couple of years and it does not appear to have caused any problems.

High Pitched noise

I had a high pitch noise, didn't sound like it came from the "underside". Turns out it was one of fans that had little chips in the blades? My Audi dealer replaced it, and it's fine now.
