Yes the water pump is external on the 3.1 V6. They all are external but the 3.1 is not attached to the engine block like the V8's

Losing water somewhere. not in floorboard or under truck? could this be a water pump? I can hear a fan motor while driving. gages show nothing? 2003 Ford explorer ltd 4.6 v8 4x4

I would have the cooling system pressure tested, this takes a special tool and if there is a leak external to the engine it will show up on the test.

Does the engine have to be taken out of the 2006 Chrysler Sebring to replace the water pump?

NO in does not. some you have to disconnect the upper motor mount and jack it up a little bit [use a piece of wood between the oil pan and the jack if you do this] most times the water pump is easy to change.

I think my water pump is leaking on my 98 nissan altima

Very possible. The water pump will be run by the timing belt behind the engine cover and on the same side of the motor as all your external belts. Make sure there are no hoses close by that could be leaking and if not it will probly be the water pump. Usually they will make a noise when they are failing. Remeber if it is just a drip and it is hot outside if you run your air conditioning it will drip water from the condenser as well.

Water pump

first you need to find out if the pump is internal or external. If external then you can do it. If it is internal then you will need to tear down front of motor which can be a job. depends on how much you know about working on cars.If internal pump you will need to set the timing again and in alot of cases you have to remove motor mounts remove pullies and on and on. can be a big job. most external pumps are not that hard to change.

How to replace water pump

It may be in with the timeing belt. if so it is a big job & not for the un expeirienced because if you get the timeing belt on slightly wrong it can destroy the motor. You 1st need to know if it is in with the T/belt or external

Hi - I have a 1993 Subaru Legacy which is leaking water from somewhere. I suspect it to be the water pump. Your advice on how to remove the pump from the motor will be much appreciated. - Thanks. Kevin...

Go to Auto Zone and they well loan you a pressure pump you can attach to the radiator and pump up the pressure you can easily find the leak if it is external

Is the water pump internal or external

I have never seen an external water pump on any vehicle, not to say they are not out there. The water pump is generally driven by the centermost pulley on the serpentine belt or fan belt, depending on which you have.

PT Cruiser Timing chain and water pump problems removing

It's a pain to get out I just did mine belt and water pump it took about 3 times as long as I thought.
Make sure all the bolts are loose, make sure you have removed the tranmission mount as it gives you more room to move the engine. It's suggest you take the exhaust off as well as you can damage it if you jack the engine up too high. Lossen the bolts on the motor mount across from that plate, you will not be able to remove the motor mount but you can spin it allowing you to get that big plate out.

PM dhirst on ptcrew.com if you want some pics or more instructions.
