Question about 1993 Chevrolet Caprice

5.7 litre engine surging

Hi I have a 94 GMC Silverado, I was driving it last week and when I went up a hill I lost power. I pulled over and it was surging even at idle, my dreaded check engine light was on. I have a code reader and when I got it home found a 44 o2 sensor. I have since replaced the sensor and changed a fuel filter for good measure. Started it up and it ran at idle but when I put it in gear it dies and is surging again. I took my air cleaner and clearance ring off the throttle body and both injectors are spraying evenly even when it dies out. No other codes present any ideas? It was running great before no problems.

Okay tried resetting the computer, it cleared the o2 sensor code and I seem to have power back when I step on the gas, but it won't idle and stalls out. beginning to think a map sensor plugged or egr valve stuck open according to my chiltons book. Any other thoughts?

I went through my book and grabbed my voltage meter and checked out the map sensor, have voltage with key on, started it and not enough voltage. unplugged the vacuum line and truck runs great, going to pickup a new map sensor, hopefully this solves the problem and at least I know the computer is okay.

Tried new map sensor, runs better but still stalls out. Any other thoughts on what this might be?

Try to disconnect the battery negative cable, and hold it to the positive post for half a minute. This will reset your computer. Reconnect the cable and start it. It may "hunt" for a while to re-learn. This is normal. Drive it to see if there is a change. To be continued....

1996 GMC Sonoma SLS 2.2 litre engine starts missing and looses massive power going up hill

This can be caused by anything limiting fuel pressure or ignition spark. Tune up items, bad coil/module, bad fuel pump, filter, relay, bad converter, muffler, dirty air filter, vacuum leak, EGR, or others.

I have a 94 GMC safari with 295K on it. I let an oil change go a year and thought because it was around town it wouldn't burn much, well I had about a litre of oil left, changed filter and oil and changed...

The loud knock you here is a bering knock.(not good)By letting oil change go so long i would assume you have caused internal damage. And you say your oil pressure is 275 psi should be around 25 to 50 psi .Bering can't last long without oil.

My 03 silverado 5.3 will start. idle is a little rough. when i get to 30 mph i loose power and runs really rough. shifting is hard and barely pulls itself up hill. just replace intake gaskets last week

Try taking the positive battery cable loose for 2 or 3 minutes, this will allow the computer to reset. You probably will still have a check engine light but should run until you can turn it off.

2003 1500hd 6 litre rpm changes while I'm driving or sitting at an idle. It doesn't show on the tach but you can hear it in the cab, and feel it slightly while pulling a hill.

When your a/c cycles on and off, this will cause a change in idle rpm's. as far as going down the road it can be your overdrive ingaging and disingaging, especially going up a hill. nothing to worry about

I bought my 2005 sebring a year ago and it is due for smog check.I put 3,000 miles on the 2.7 litre engine in the last year and it now has 36,000 miles.A couple months ago the malfunction yellow light came...

the 2.7l has a sludge problem. This could cause the stalling and loss of power. There's a few fixes, the new water pump (which is part of the problem) doesn't dump coolant into the oil pan. Easy way to check is to simply drop the oil pan.

2004 GMC Envoy XL Loss of power

I also have an '04 Envoy XL. The problem we had was very similar. The truck lost power and the wife and kids were stuck on the interstate. It was the catalytic converter totally clogged. We were told by our trusted mechanic that we were lucky not to have blown a head gasket from the back pressure. Two days after having the converter replaced the check engine light came on. I went to Autozone to have the codes read. I don't remember the code number but it was basically that the thermostat was stuck open and the engine was running too cool causing it to run rich and clog the converter. I did not get a light until after and the light went out on it's own. I hope this helps you. GOOD LUCK!
