It should have a plastic cover on it. It will look like a valve stem for a tire inside (Schrader valve). You want the high side.

SOURCE: Searching for low-side port to recharge AC on 1997

hello dsouris: Locate the A/C accumulator on the left inner fender well. This will be a round aluminum cylinder with two lines coming out of it. Follow the large line that runs back to the firewall. You should see a shadder valve in this line. This will be the suction line or low side line. This will be the line used to charge the A/C system. If you need further help please just ask. If this information please rate the information as it helps.Thank You for using FixYa. Roger

SOURCE: 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier A/C does not work

Your compressor's shaft seal is the most likely culprit. If you can find someone to replace the shaft seal and body gaskets in your compressor, you should be fine. Cavaliers use a V5 compressor, an excellent but leak-prone when unused.

SOURCE: where is the port for the air conditioner on a

Low Side service port is on a larger hose assembly on passenger side heading out of the compressor to the firewall into the vehicle compartment(evap housing). This is the service port which will be low pressure and will accept freon.High side is always small metal piping and heads up front towards the reciever drier and condenser....be safe

SOURCE: need to recharge 2003 chevy malibu air

under the hood there is two a/c valves, one says H for high side and one says L for low side... hook up to the low side and turn the a/c on max with the car running and then charge. you really need a pressure gauge to know how much to put in. too much freon will make it blow hot also, you need the right amount of pressures, just go slow filling it up and keep checking the a.c temp out of the vents.

Possible that it just needs refrigerant. They have ac recharge kits that are pretty fool proof. I'd try that. That generally takes care of it on my car. Hope that helps.

History?was it working before? you cant just hook up a hose and put it in. First find out why compressor wont run, If it needs compressor, it needs a drier and orifice tube, put on a vaccuum pump for 1 hr then recharged with the correct amount of r134. You need someone who knows a/c to look at it.

Ac needs recharged can,t find port

These ports are usually covered with blue plastic cap. Remember to always service on suction/low pressure line only, the low press. line is the large line coming off the compressor.

Service port

It seems that you have a leak, best bet is to bring it to someone with a set of gages to check the pressures while the ac system is operating. The high side should be about 150-200 psi and low side between 30-40psi with those numbers you should be running very cool. If its not that high then you most probably have a leak in the system most probably at one of the recently replaced parts or a new place, fill the system with a uv dye and recharge. drive for a week or two and check with a uv light.

when an AC gets real hot and there is air in the system you get what is called High Head Pressure and the high pressure switch will not let the clutch engage. Need to have the system evacuated and recharged.
