I have only 35 to 39 psi gas pressure reading what can cause this. I have replaced the filter plug wires coil packs. when stepping on gas pedal there is alot of hessation

My question is the car lacks power off and on meaning when gas pedal is pressed it almost seems like it falls on its face but when you let of the gas a little bit it moves better. I checked the fuel pressure and the reading is 35 to 39 psi. Whould this be the fuel pump?

Check the tps(throttle position sensor) voltages and grounds. one wire is battery voltage the other is reference voltage and the third is ground. the reference voltage should get higher smoothly as you move the throttle without any dropouts anywhere in the full movement from closed throttle to wide open.

SOURCE: Vehicle dies while driving down the road.

could it be the A/C pump kicking in. might be boging down the motor or electrical circuit, not letting the injectors get enough power. This could happen if the bearings are going bad in th A/C pump or there is a short in it. Just an idea. sounds like you have done the main components.

Hi there
sounds like you done allot to this car. did you clean your gas tank? Reason i say this there are times you get bad gas that water with it. and it sounds like you got water in your tank. need to get it out. Try this get some rubbing alcohol and poor it in your tank. It won't hurt it. It will soak up the water that's in your tank. try this and let me know how it goes.
Thank you for writing to fix ya.
Best Regards Richard

SOURCE: 1999 olds 88. I

recommend you check your MAP sensor. You will need a voltmeter.
If you don't have a vacuum gage, just use your mouth to pull a vacuum on the hose and see if the voltage drops when you do.
Let me know if you have questions.

OPERATION The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, used on 1996-99 vehicles, measures the changes in intake manifold pressure which result from engine load/speed changes, and converts this information to a voltage output. The MAP sensor reading is the opposite of a vacuum gauge reading: when manifold pressure is high, MAP sensor value is high and vacuum is low. A MAP sensor will produce a low output on engine coast-down with a closed throttle while a wide open throttle will produce a high output. The high output is produced because the pressure inside the manifold is the same as outside the manifold, so 100 percent of the outside air pressure is measured.
The MAP sensor is also used to measure barometric pressure under certain conditions, which allows the PCM to automatically adjust for different altitudes.
The MAP sensor changes the 5 volt signal supplied by the PCM, which reads the change and uses the information to control fuel delivery and ignition timing.

TESTING See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Visually check the connector, making sure it is properly connected and that all of its terminals are straight, tight and free of corrosion.
  2. With the ignition ON , check the voltage between terminals A and B (probe the back of the connector to connect to these wires). It should be above 4 volts. Apply 15 in. Hg of vacuum at the MAP vacuum port and check the voltage again. The voltage should be 2 volts now.

jturcotte_326.gif

Fig. Fig. 1: Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor circuit
When pumping up and releasing the vacuum, check to make sure the voltage readings are smooth. When applying vacuum to the sensor, the change in voltage should happen instantly. A slow change in voltage could point to a faulty sensor.

jturcotte_327.gif

Fig. Fig. 2: MAP sensor voltage specifications

  1. If the sensor voltage is not within specification, check for a 5 volt reference at terminal C. If the reference signal is found, the sensor is faulty.
  2. If the sensor and circuits are functional, the PCM may be faulty.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

3.8L (VIN K) Engine
See Figure 4
On these engines, the MAP sensor is mounted to the PCV valve cover.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Detach the MAP sensor electrical connector.
  3. Carefully bend the locking tabs holding the MAP sensor to the PCV valve cover, just enough to remove the MAP sensor.
  4. Pull the MAP sensor straight out of the PCV valve cover.
jturcotte_328.gif

Fig. Fig. 4: On the 3.8L (VIN K) engine, the MAP sensor (1) is mounted in the PCV valve cover (2)

To install:

  1. Make sure that the seal is installed on the MAP sensor and that it is not damaged.
  2. Position and install the MAP sensor to the PCV valve cover. Make sure the locking tabs engage to hold the sensor to the cover.
  3. Attach the sensor electrical connector.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hey Mike, I know this is hair pulling..You need to replace the fuel pump filter/strainer.. and maybe the fuel pump..the fuel pump determines how much pressure goes through the entire system ... BUT FIRST.. determine (if you can) where the metal flakes came from..(debris is probably from a gas station.. over the years.. I learned NOT to get gas right after heavy rains - guess why?) ,,do you still have the old fuel filter?? carefully cut it open and see whats inside.. (unroll the pleats) if you see a lot of metal flakes like in the tank,, you know they were caught..

P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected.

Possible Causes:
- Improper spark plug at cylinder #1
- Insufficient compression at cylinder #1
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted at cylinder #1
- Fuel injector #1 may be faulty
- Intake air leak at cylinder

Possible Solutions:
- Perform Injector Service
- Replaced Spark Plug #1
- Replaced Injector #1
- Replaced Ignition Coil #1

Being you have a heavy gas smell I would look into the injectors. If injector #1 is over producing it can cause a misfire. Test your compression and fuel pressure.

Code claims multiple misfires changed the plugs and it continues to sputter and backfire especially when going uphill. Fuel filter? coil pack? plug wires?

check your high tension leads or plug wires. If you find one out of the correct resistance range, about 7ohms per foot, dont discount that the missfiring has damaged the coil pack for that cylinder as the wasted spark had no where to got except hammering the coil pack. As for the fuel filter refresh them often as the standards of fuel from the pump can vary

New coil pack, ran good for a week. Replaced pack, wires plugs and fuel filter, still dies when I step on gas.2002 3.0 V6. 70K miles

The fuel pump may be about done. Check fuel pressure at the test port in the fuel rail over the injectors (rent the pressure tester)--it should be in the 40 to 50 PSI range with engine idling. If the pump continues to run with the key on, but the engine off, shows that the pump is about worn out. Hope this helps!

Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail on top of the engine it should read a minimum of 30 psi if any lower replace the fuel pump, also if you smell a gas odor and the fuel pressure regulator looks wet with gas replace the pressure regulator before the fuel pump. This sounds like a fuel delivery issue.
