First connect fuel Gage to the fuel line and read the presser if you replace the fuel filter, I think the engine ruining lean , alllthe best.

Does pin 16 at datalink connector have voltage? Should be hot all the time, fuse protected. You may be way ahead of me on testing this?

Maybe one way to tell if computer is awake, turn on key, check for ref voltage at any sensor that uses a ref voltage. If no ref voltage, check computer voltage and ground circuits.

You could pick one system that has a problem, then check voltage--ground and control where applicable. It may all lead back to computer for some reason, but, I can't tell at the moment?

The heavy smoke is from all the fuel dumping in to the cylinders without enough heat. Can you plug the car in at might if not glow the plugs sevral times befor turning the engine over.key on few sec then off then on several times. Hope this atleast helps your cold start problem.

What color smoke? Black is emissions related, blue/black your burning oil and white your burning anti-freeze. With the "skip" your REF to, you probably have a bad spark plug, wire, or bad cylinder and burning some oil or coolant. CK plugs , wires & do a compression test. Pressure test Radiator for head gasket leak.

Do me a favor check the fuel injector maybe they are bad that why the odor of gaz snd the smok

Check under hood for melted wires, sounds like the water pump may have or did fail. This usually will cause overheating. MAKE SURE to see if you have melted wires or parts under the hood.

You have a blown head gasket.

disconnect carter-gases pipe(over the ref-pos sensor), and if smoke stops, You don't need new engine :)
