Car cut off while driving wouldnt start back up

I thought it was the fuel pump that went out but i pressed the inertia switch (fuel reset switch) and it didnt start then i pressed it again and held it down and i heard the fuel pump get power and the car started then when i let it go the car runs for a few seconds then cuts off again, can these inertia switches go bad or is something else causing this , or can the fuel pump be bad causing the switch to do that

I have the same problem in my 2000 stang. I replaced the switch and worked fine for a while, but few days later I had the same issue again. The problem was from the harness itself. I was melted coz of heat. So, I'm going to change it and check again.

Replace the switch.Yes they can be faulty. If that doesn't solve the problem then your fuel pump is causing it to trip out.change the fuel pump.good luck.

I have a 98 Ford escort zx2 we thought it jumped time so we checked and it's fine has fire going to the plugs checked the starter and still won't start it turns over but won't start any ideals

Probably the Inertia switch. Try a little starting fluid and see if it tries to run. If it does start then you have a fuel problem and the power to the fuel pump is probably cut off at the inertia switch. This part has a reset button and the inertia switch can be in several places. Sometimes it is behind a front kickpanel or sometimes in the rear cargo area.

Inertia switch keeps cutting off while cranking engine

Power goes from the fuse box to the fuel pump relay to the inertia switch and then to the fuel pump motor.I would suggest bypassing the inertia switch for now just to see if you can get the vehicle started and go from there. FYI The inertia switch is just there in case you get in a collision and shuts fuel off. Good Luck

Fuel pump doesn work

This is probably a case where the Inertia switch has cut off the power to the fuel pump. Depending on what Model you drive, will control where the Inertia switch is located.

Ask a question in the Web Search such as "Location of Inertia Switch on Your Year and Model Vehicle". They are usually either in the trunk or behind the front floor kick panels.

The reset button needs to be pressed to restore fuel pump power.

-Back fire could cause from fuel contaminate (with water.)
-Clog air filter.

Let's find out why you truck can't stay on...?
looks like your car has a Fuel pump inertia switch.
If so. Reset it first. After reset it still can't stay on then:
1. Check the fuel pump relay.

Q: What is fuel pump inertia switch and where is it?
A: It's a safety switch in case car roll over it's automatic cut off power
to fuel pump. And toyota usually locate inside of the left panel.
(Left side of your left foot when you drive)

Maybe something wrong with inertia switch? Part of diagram so you can see inertia switch wire colors. How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Also, use a gage check proper fuel pressure, my info says 35--45 psi. I've seen fuel pumps that would run, but wouldn't make proper fuel pressure. I'm not saying the fuel pump has a problem, at the moment, I don't know?

NO GAS PASSING THE FUEL FILTER

If yout cut out the inertia, have to put it back, because it controls another third fuel pump whish could be the one blocking the gas.

Engine wont start help please!!!!!

you have tripped the inertia switch, (there to cut off the fuel pump in the event of a collision), you need to reset the switch by simply pressing it back in.
