It not a big deal to change it IF YOU ALREADY HAVE SOME EXPERTISE WITH A/C just need to loosen some screws & pulley tensors, purgue the A/C system and disconnect & connect some cables and charge it again. But it will be a good idea to take it to a good mechanic. Don't forget to have the A/C system lubricated before charging it again.

If you know what your doing you can work on any car yourself, but i recomend that you buy a new compressor because you can never tell how long used parts will last for

I am planning to buy 2000 audi A4 with 95000 miles on it? What do I need to check on this car before I drive off the lot?

This info is from MSN autos.

Occasional problems on this vehicle, 4-cylinder engines only, are failures of the Engine, Engine Vacuum Hoses and the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor. Failure of the Engine is caused because the engine oil gels. When proper maintenance schedules for oil changes are followed, oil gelling should not occur. Audi has issued an 8 year unlimited mileage goodwill repair for this condition. The cost to replace the MAF Sensor is estimated at $380.00 for parts and $60.00 for labor. The cost to repair the Engine Vacuum Hoses is estimated at $25.00 for parts and $65.00 for labor. The cost to repair the Engine is estimated at $4,775.00 for parts and $845.00 for labor. The cost to replace the Mass Air Flow Sensor is estimated at $500.00 for parts and $52.00 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65.00 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.

Occasional problems on this vehicle are failure of the Comfort Control Module, with 4-cylinder engines only, and failure of the 4-Way Hazard Flasher. The cost to repair the Comfort Control Module is estimated at $290.00 for parts and $65.00 for labor. The cost to replace the 4-Way Hazard Flasher is $31.50 for parts and $91.00 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65.00 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.

My wife got an estimate for $1500 to $1800 to repair the airconditioning in her 1999 suburban which is something we can't afford now. I am pretty handy and wondered if I could do this myself for a lot less...

I would check on the internet and local junkyards for used a/c, for example, has used compressors for GMC Yukon for $252. I have bought parts for a 2000 Land Rover on-line for a lot less than I could find at the local dealer and auto parts store. You do need to take your truck to a local a/c repair place and have them drain, flush, vacuum the system before removing the compressor. You might want to replace the evaperator and check all your fittings, hoses and o-rings. Hope this helps

Audi Convertible Roof broken

i can,t see why all these should need to be replaced, you need to get a more detailed report of what exactly they want to replace and for what reason in my experience dealerships dealing with roof faults will replace parts one by one untill the problem is fixed and surely the dealer should cover the cost of the repair if the roof faulted after only 3 weeks

2005 Ford Freestyle compressor went bad, same mileage

Get an estimate from a Ford dealer. Your problem may not take all the parts that Goodyear wants to put in. The dealer has recall info and may work with you to keep a Ford customer. You say your compressor went bad, but that may be the result of a problem and not the cause.
You can also try independent shops rather than franchises. But you may not know of any. Sometimes I ask at Police stations if I need help for reliable service places.

P0700 am I able to fix this myself?

P0700 - Transmission Control System Malfunction

HI, this will need the attention of a skilled transmission tech. the TCM(transmission control module/PCM) is signaling an issue that is a major concern. A diagnostic scan is needed at this time.

The most common issue will be a fault wiring harness but, this could also be an issue that concerns the speed sensor connections as well.

NOTE: Low fluid level can be the cause of many transmission problems. If the fluid level is low locate and repair the leak then check and adjust the fluid level per the Service Information

This repair will cost around 1500 or so. the PCM , if damaged, is a dealer part.(must be ordered and installed by the dealer)

We are looking at a volvo and the 3rd seat latch is broken. Is this expensive to replace ?

Contact the dealer for a price estimate on the part. Changing it is fairly simple.

I, myself have been very surprised at times what part costs are. A part that you would expect to be $30 to $40 will go for $150.
If the dealer what's too much for it, contact a local wrecking yard to see if they can obtain the part for you.
Parts like this are seldom repairable by anything but replacement (there are rare occasions though that you can)
