Question about 2000 Mazda Protege

I have a 1998 Mazda protege DX and I am about to change the timing belt. I am going to replace the water pump at the same time, is there any other parts ie seals that I should change at the same time?

There two tensioners in there, very important to change. They are cheap and included in most of the timing belt kits.

It's possibly for the timing to be off even if you line up the marks. If it have variable timing the the marks only are a reference. You need special tools to properly set up timing

To get to the water pump on the Protege, you need to remove the timing belt also. This is not a job for the beginner, but if you are willing to give it a go, here is some info that you may find useful. CLICK HERE

2001 mazda protege dx 5 spd dies, brakes are seized up?

It seems that one of the pulleys is bent, or you are using the wrong timing belt. I would suggest changing them. That would probably explain why the timing belt keeps breaking. The braking problem can be related, or you simply have a leak somewhere in the system and should try bleeding the brakes after thorough inspection.

How do you replace the water pump on a 1992 Mazda Protege?

Hi:

The water pump is driven by the timing belt, which is on the passenger side of your engine. You would need to remvoe all belts, and then the timing belt cover, and the timing belt to change your water pump.

it should be replaced when you start to see wear and tear on the belt or when it breaks (obviously)

I would recomend you take you car to a shop to have it replaced, its very complicated.
