Does it keep cranking like when first starting or is it running normally and when you turn off the key it just keeps running if it's the first one the solenoid on the fender is N/G the engines running but the starter is still cranking trying to turn the engine over but it's already running///// next if it's running normally after starting no grinding from the starter being engaged like I just described then the ignition switch on the steering column is N/G//// THIS IS NOT THE IGNITION KEY SWITCH THAT YOU PUT THE KEY IN TO START THE TRUCK THIS IS LOCATED DOWN ABOUT HALFWAY BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND YOUR FEET THERE IS A ROD THAT COMES FROM THE KEY SWITCH WITH THE KEY THAT WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY YOU ARE MOVING THIS ROD WHICH MAKES THE SWITCH MOVE TO THE POSITION TO START THE TRUCK WHEN YOU LET GO THE SPRING INSIDE LET'S THE SWITCH MOVE TO THE RUN POSITION SO WHAT'S WRONG HERE IS THE SWITCH IS NOT OPENING WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION IF IT'S A NEW SWITCH YOU HAVE TO ADJUST IT TO GET IT TO SHUT OFF THE RIGHT WAY IF IT'S AN OLD ONE REPLACE IT BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED BEFORE AND THE FASTENERS LOSSENED AND MIGHT NEED TO BE ADJUSTED AGAIN AND TIGHTENED TO HOLD IT IN PLACE GOOD LUCK! 2000 honda cvic will not start but if you push on the it will try to start but will not stay running

Do you notice anything unusual with the dash lights when you turn the key on. All the warning lights should illuminate. If they do not but then come on as you start to rotate the key into the start position than you probably have a bad ignition switch.

If you turn the key to the start position and hold it there (only do this for a few seconds) will the car stay running until you let go of the key? Another clue that the ignition switch may be bad.

if you turn the key to the start position and the vehicle starts slowly let the key rotate back to the run position until the starter disengages. If the vehicle continues to run let go of the key. If the vehicle stalls than the ignition switch is definitely bad.

2002 f350 will not shut off with key. with key removed dash lights stay on and engine continues to run must pull injector relay to shut down. the dash lights stay on as if you turned the key to accesory...

ok well this is where you might be incorrect... either you have a 12 volt wire bleeding scross or you have a bad ignition switch. the run wire off the ignition switch is the only thing that will keep it running unless you have a remote start then of course that could keep the engine running. you might want to start by making sure the ignition switch is beaking the signal to the PCM.

My car just stop running i tried to restart it and it would not stay started

try the ignition switch.. i am not sure try turning the key and keeping it in the turn over position... if it runs it is the ignition switch probably.. it means it is running of your starter.. you will have to hold the key there tho.. because it wont stay started if you dont hold it in the turn over... it can also mean key and tumbler... do you have gas in it??

Car wont start, changed ecm, plugs, started but died, what should i do

After you put in the ecu, do the crank relearn, and you're good to go.
Ensure that your battery is fully charged before attempting the relearn procedure. Do not leave any battery charger or jumper cables attached to the battery. Close the hood completely. Some applications require that the doors remain closed during the procedure.

1. Rotate the key to the start position to attempt to start the vehicle (the vehicle will not start).
Allow the key to return to the all position (same as if the vehicle would have started). The theft system light will flash (or stay lit) on the dash for approximately 10 minutes.
2. When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns oft) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt tostart the vehicle. The vehicle should start on this cycle.
3. Once the vehicle is running, the password relearn is complete.

4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes.
5. On the next cycle of turning the ignition key from off to crank the vehicle should start
6. Once the vehicle is running, the password is learned and this completes the cycle.
7. Clear any DTC's with a scan tool if necessary. DTC history will be cleared after 100 ignition cycles.
