SOURCE: 1996 Jeep Cherokee intermittently only starts in Neutral

Neutral Saftey Switch located on top of your transmission. Costly to replace but often can be taken off and cleaned.

Testimonial: "After doing a little research I thought that might be the problem. What would be used to clean it?"

SOURCE: jeep will crank but wont start also fuel guage not working

Will it try to start if you spray some carb cleaner in the throttle body? If so you need to check fuel pressure and if low, power to the fuel pump while cranking, the gauge not working could be a seperate issue. Could it be that the car is out of gas since the gauge doesn't work? Just asking. If so you may just need a sending unit. If you end up needing a fuel pump, you'll get a sender with it. I've never seen a sender and a pump go out at the exact same time, the use two different circuit's. The ECM really doesn't have any thing to do with the fuel gauge on this car.

SOURCE: 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport wont start

Try this first. With one of you under the car whack the starter with a hammer as the other of you turns the key t the start position and holds it there. No wimpy whacks here give it one or two good ones. If it is a bad starter it may start this way. If it does, a new starter motor is in your future. Very easy to change on a Jeep. If it doesn't work let me know and we will go further.

SOURCE: 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport Ignition Lights Come on but wont crank

Try putting the car in neutral and starting. If its a manual trans it might be the clutch pedal safety switch or it may be something as simple as a loose battery connection.

Sounds like your battery is way down. have it checked/charged and load tested. then have the charging system tested after you get it started.

Wont start

The starting fluid things results are what is leading me here , I'm calling it an ignition problem (read:no spark).
The issue you have had with the ignition module a couple a months ago leads me back there as well.
When the module was replaced , was the white heat transfer grease spread liberally on the heat sync?
Failure to do this will cause the module to overheat easily enough.
The flashing lights now, That's a stumper. Is the emergency warning light switch turned on?

1998 Jeep Cherokee won't start?

I need to confirm some information. The engine is rotating, just not starting, right? When you put the key into the "on" position, do you hear the fuel pump prime itself? You'll hear a hum sound for a couple of seconds. If not, spray some starting fluid into the throttle body and see if the engine starts. If it does start with the starting fluid, then shuts off again, the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay is bad. I'd change the relay first, if that doesn't help, the fuel pump is bad.
