These cars have valve body problems due to 5 large electronic solenoids operating within the vale body...they act like elctromagnets and attract alot of metal fragments subsequently hanging up valves and normal movement within the valve body...good news is these can be serviced from above as the cover is top mounted under the battery...once that valve body is removed it would be advisable to crcuit check all channels with compressed air to simulate hydrallic pressure to circuits and verifying no internal failures or circuit leaks... I wish it was easier but you need internal diagnostic and hopefully the trans doesnt need tore down all the way and can be fixed with a valve body alone....good luck

1997 conversion van was towed now it wont go in reverse

When you tow a vehicle -- a flat bed hauler -- is your best bet

Next would be -- to use a wheel lift to raise the rear wheels or
remove the drive shaft, so the trans does not have any internal
parts moving

Hard to say IF something was ruined or reverse was about to fail

When reverse goes on a rear drive GM trans, your pretty much going to be taking it apart & rebuilding it,as reverse is the first parts into the case & the last out on disassembly

1998 Honda Civic manual trans will not shift into gears. Car starts, push in clutch and it goes to the floor, release clutch and comes back up. Unable to put into gears. Brake fluid and clutch fluid seem...

Eric, how are you confirming whether or not the car goes into gear if you shift gears without the engine running? One way would be to put it in 1st and see if you can push the car. If you can't, it is in gear.

Another option is to roll the car slightly forward or backward (engine off) while trying to put the car in gear. Once it is in gear, then the car shouldn't move any further. However, if it goes into gear, DO NOT start the car without taking it back out of gear.

The clutch is much more likely to be the problem than the transmission.

If the clutch fluid ever ran dry, then the clutch hydraulics will need to be bled of air. Otherwise, the problem could be the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder or throwout bearing. Since you didn't report the clutch slipping (e.g. engine revving without accelerating when in gear) it is likely not the clutch disks themselves.

I have a 2003 dodge neon that has a faulty alternator. when the car is running i only have 9.5 volts. can this cause my transmission to not shift from 2nd gear, i can manually put the shifter down to gear...

Low voltage to your electrical system can cause many problems. The best way to eliminate lots of options is to fix the alternator and see if it still has the same problem.

2000 Durango ran fine, parked, satrated and it

well a number of things could be wrong with this, first check the fluid levels to insure that there is fluid in your transmision, next check to ensure that the shifting bar from the gear shifter is connected to the gear box controler, normally it is a bar that goes down by the steering colume, try getting a person in the driver seat and moving the gear seletor and make sure everything is moving that looks like it should, if a monting brace for this is broken it won't work

1976 corvette shifter locked up, goes in revese & neutral only

You're going to have to crawl underneath it, and see what's going on. Your linkage has probably come loose, and the shifter is sliding on the rod, instead of changing gears like it should.

Will not run in forward gears

its a common issue that once the low forward band in ford transmissions wear out that it will engage first and 2nd at the same time. of course this is not mechanically possible and the car stalls out.

your fix is to replace the transmission

98 Ford Explorer wont move in reverse or overdrive

Probably low oil pressure in the transmission or worn clutches.
