Remove the front door glass (Refer to 23 - BODY/ DOOR - FRONT/DOOR GLASS - REMOVAL). below.... 3. Remove the weatherstrip from the front glass run channel. 4. Remove the nut (2) that secures the top of the front glass run channel (1) to the inside door panel. 5. Loosen the nut (3) that secures the bottom of the run channel to the keyed hole on the inside door panel. 6. Lift the front glass run channel upward within the door far enough to disengage the nut that secures the bottom of the run channel to the keyed hole on the inside door panel. 7. and 23page 1. Remove the outer belt weatherstrip (1) from the front door. 2. Remove the trim panel from the inside of the front door (Refer to 23 - BODY/DOOR - FRONT/TRIM PANEL - REMOVAL). 3. Remove the speaker from the inside of the front door (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/AUDIO/SPEAKER - REMOVAL). 4. Remove the watershield from the inside of the front door (Refer to 23 - BODY/DOOR - FRONT/WATERSHIELD - REMOVAL). 5. Using the regulator (4), move the front door glass (2) up or down as required to access the two window regulator glass clamp bolts (3). 6. Loosen the bolt in each of the window regulator glass clamps far enough to release the door glass from the clamps. 7. Disengage the door glass from the window regulator glass clamps. 8. Lower the regulator down as required for access to remove the door glass. 9. Carefully rotate the door glass within the window opening and remove the glass from the door through the window opening.
Remove the front door window/lock control switch bezel.
Disconnect the window/lock control switch electrical connectors.
Remove the 3 front door trim panel screws.
CAUTION
To avoid damaging the trim panel, do not pull directly outward to
carry out this step.
Lift the door trim panel by pulling directly upward on the armrest
to disengage the panel clips.
Remove the exterior mirror control switch from the front door trim
panel.
Remove the front door speaker.
Remove the interior molding.
Disconnect the door lock actuating rod at the door handle
assembly:
Release the door lock actuating rod clip.
Position the door lock actuating rod aside.
Remove the front door weather shield.
CAUTION
Make sure the holes in the glass bracket do not become enlarged
during the rivet removal process. If the holes become enlarged, the new
rivets may become loose, resulting in clicking noise concern.
NOTE
Some vehicles may use rivets to attach the window glass to the
window regulator assembly. Use a 4.5 mm (0.1772 in) drill bit to drill
out the glass-to-regulator rivets.
Remove the 2 front door window glass-to-regulator bolts or rivets.
Position the front door window glass as necessary to access the
front door window glass-to-regulator bolts or rivets.
Secure the front door glass in the full up position with tape.
Disconnect the window regulator motor electrical connector.
Remove the 4 window regulator assembly nuts.
Remove the window regulator assembly.

To install:
Position the window regulator assembly.
Install the 4 window regulator assembly nuts. Tighten to 89 inch
lbs. (10 Nm).
Connect the window regulator motor electrical connector.
Remove the tape securing the front door glass in the full up
position.
Position the front door window glass as necessary to access the
front door window glass-to-regulator bolts or rivets. Install the bolt
and tighten the bolts to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm), or install new rivets.
Install the front door weather shield.
Connect the door lock actuating rod at the door handle assembly:
Position the door lock actuating rod into proper location.
Attach the door lock actuating rod clip.
Install the interior molding.
Install the front door speaker.
Install the front door trim panel as follows:
Install the exterior mirror control switch from the front door
trim panel.
Position the door trim panel onto the armrest to engage the panel
clips.
Install the 3 front door trim panel screws.
Connect the window/lock control switch electrical connectors.
Install the front door window/lock control switch bezel.
Install the front door handle bezel.
Raise the front door window glass to the full up position.
Remove the interior door handle.
Support the front door window glass.
Disconnect the front door window regulator motor electrical
connector.
Remove the equalizer bracket nuts.

Remove the front door window regulator by removing the rivets and
nuts.
Remove the front door window regulator motor retaining bolts and
then remove the motor.

To install:
Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
Tighten the regulator motor mounting bolts to 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm).
Saturn Coupes/Sedans/Wagons 1991-1998 Repair Guide Door Glass and Regulator - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (see Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4)
Remove the outer door panel assembly. Refer to the sub-procedure under Door Locks, earlier in this section.
For rear doors, loosen the bottom fastener of the rear door
stationary window assembly, in order to provide clearance, then apply
tape to the lower half of the outboard exposed portion of the
stationary window channel. The tape must be applied in order to prevent
damage to the paint surface.
Lower the door glass, then use SA9148B, or an equivalent tool, to
remove the glass nuts. Push the glass upward and rotate slightly, then
remove the glass from the vehicle.
If the regulator is also to be removed, proceed as follows:
Remove the inner door trim panel. Refer to the procedure earlier in this section.
If applicable, unplug the wiring harness from the power regulator.
Except for the rear door, remove the regulator cam bolts.
Drill out the regulator rivets and remove the regulator from the vehicle.
To install:
If removed, install the regulator to the door assembly:
Position the regulator to the door and secure using rivets.
Except for the rear door, install the cam bolts.
If applicable, connect the wiring harness to the regulator.
Install the inner door trim panel to the vehicle.
Install the door glass into the door and over the regulator studs.
Install the glass nuts using tool SA9148B, or equivalent.
Check the door glass for proper operation and alignment.
If necessary, adjust the glass alignment. For rear doors,
fore/aft adjustments are made after loosening the B bolts, while in/out
adjustments are made when the A bolts are loosened.
Except for the rear doors, glass which is not running parallel
to the door header may be adjusted after loosening the inner panel cam
attachment bolts and adjusting the cam. If the glass is floating in the
opening, lower the glass 3

downward, loosen the front guide fasteners, push the glass rearward to
seat it in the rear channel, then bring the front glass guide back to
the front edge of the glass. Apply a light finger pressure on the guide
and tighten the fasteners.
Once the glass has been properly adjusted and is operating smoothly, install the outer door panel assembly.

CAUTION: Prior to removing center pins from the rivet, it is recommended that a suitable block support be inserted between door outer panel and glass bracket to stabilize glass during rivet removal. Remove center pin from each rivet with a drift punch. Using a 1/4-inch diameter drill, drill out remaining rivets as damage to plastic glass retainer and spacer could result.
Remove two rivets attaching glass to run and bracket assembly.
Remove glass.
Remove drillings and pins from bottom of door.
Installation
Snap plastic retainer and spacer into two glass retainer holes. Make certain that metal washer in the retainer assembly is on outboard side of glass.
Insert glass into door.
Position glass to glass bracket. Install two rivets to secure glass to glass bracket.
NOTE: Two 1/4-inch-20 x 1-inch bolts and two 1/4-inch-20 nut and washer assemblies may be used as alternates for glass retention. However, torque must not exceed 4-7 Nm (36-61 lb-in). Equivalent metric retainers (6mm) may be used.
Install door trim panel and watershield. Refer to Section 01-05.

Window Regulator, Front Door, Explorer
Removal WARNING: IF THE REGULATOR COUNTERBALANCE SPRING MUST BE REMOVED OR REPLACED FOR ANY REASON, MAKE SURE THAT THE REGULATOR ARMS ARE IN A FIXED POSITION PRIOR TO REMOVAL TO PREVENT POSSIBLE INJURY DURING C-SPRING UNWIND.
Remove front door trim panel and front door trim shield . Refer to Section 01-05B .
Trim Panel, Front Door, Explorer Hi-Series, Two-Door and Four-Door
Removal and Installation
Remove the two screws retaining the front door trim panel (23942) located above the window regulator handle (23342) . Also remove one screw in the upper front portion of front door trim panel .
Remove inside door handle cup (22634) at the window regulator handle using a screwdriver or sharp object. Retention nibs will flex for easy removal.
To remove window regulator control switch (14529) and outside rear view mirror control (17B676) , use notch located at lower end of outside rear view mirror control using a screwdriver to lift and remove.
Remove outside rear view mirror control from front door trim panel pulling wire harness from inside of front door trim panel .
From bottom of outside rear view mirror control, remove two screws and disconnect connector from switches.
NOTE: Do not pull on the front door trim panel to remove clips from the inner panel holes.
At each plastic clip location, pry the front door trim panel away from the door inner panel using the front door trim panel removing tool from Rotunda Moulding Trim Kit 107-00401 or equivalent.
NOTE: Pay special attention to the cut-out in the door trim panel for the door handle, so that it clears the handle during removal without breakage.
When wiring and disengagement of trim clips is completed, it is recommended that to remove panel, lift slightly to remove flange at the top of door trim panel from trough in the glass weatherstrip.
Disconnect socket and bulb from illuminated interior lamp (13776) before total removal of front door trim panel.
For installation, follow removal procedures in reverse order. Replace any bent, damaged or missing plastic clips on the front door trim panel to the front door trim panel , firmly loading clips into slots provided on front door trim panel .
Trim Panel, Front Door, Explorer Hi-Series Four-Door
Remove inside door belt weatherstrip and glass stabilizer.
Remove front door window glass as described in this section.
Remove two nut and washer assemblies attaching the equalizer bracket.
Remove three rivets (manual) or four rivets (power) attaching the regulator base plate to front door trim panel finish panel (23712) .
Remove window regulator electric drive and front door window channel bracket from vehicle.
Working on a bench, carefully bend tab flat to remove arm slides from front door window channel bracket .
Install new window regulator electric drive arm plastic guides into front door window channel bracket and bend tab back to 90 degrees.
Use care not to break tab; if tab is cracked or broken, replace front door window channel bracket . Make sure rubber bumper is installed properly on new front door window channel bracket , if replacement is made.
Installation NOTE: The front door window channel bracket and window regulator electric drive are installed into the vehicle as one assembly. The front door window channel bracket may be disassembled from the window regulator electric drive as described in Steps 7 and 8 of Window Regulator, Removal.
Install front door trim panel finish panel with preassembled glass bracket into vehicle. Set the regulator base plate to window regulator electric drive using base plate locator tab as a guide.
Install three (manual) or four (power) rivets (385189-S100) to attach regulator to front door trim panel finish panel .
Two 1/4-20 x 1-inch bolts and two 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies may be used as alternates for glass retention. However, torque must not exceed 4-7 Nm (3-5 ft-lb). Equivalent metric retainers may be used.
Install equalizer bracket.
Install inside door belt weatherstrip and glass stabilizer.
Lower regulator arms to access holes in front door trim panel finish panel . Install front door window glass as outlined.
Adjust glass to ensure proper alignment with glass run. Cycle glass for smooth operation.
Install front door trim panel and front door trim shield . Refer to Section 01-05B .
