lots. ill list them all..
the 2 stated. in blue above. and.
1: bad dash lamp this lamp boot staps the field current or the alternator is born dead. so is it dead key on, , yes, BINGO.

the reg inside can shut the ALT down for.
over voltage
over current.
or if it THINKS(sic) that the batter internal resistances is too high. for ANY REASON what so ever. it will shut down
these protections prevents the ALt. from blowing expensive electronics (all of it) to kingdom come. $$$$$
its a feature.

Very easy job, but i would recommenend taking the alt out and going to a local auto parts store and checking it to make sure it is ok or bad first then buy one

is it charging sufficiently? short jorneys do not allways put enough charge back into a battery, is your charge light coming on then going out once the engine is started?

Can't help with a problem of getting into the car, assuming the keys don't work. As for charging the battery, make sure all accessories are off in both cars, hook up the cables to the dead battery first, noting which one goes to the + cable on the battery. That same cable will go to the + terminal on the car that is running. Make the last connection the one that goes to the - terminal on the running car.
Let the battery charge for 2-3 minutes and then try to start. If it doesn't start after 5 minutes, rev the engine on the jump car and that will add voltage to the connection. Try to start again after a few minutes. After you get it going, let your car run for 20 minutes to build up the battery. When disconnecting the cables, keep the ends from touching until all cables are disconnected from the batteries.

Double whammy. starter non operational and alternator doesnt charge. Hmm it has to just be one problem not two.do you have clean battery connections external part of the battery or internal part of the battery.concentrate your effort on the terminals and lets start this car.does the head light go on if yes . okay now turn the ignition did the battery just spark if it did you got a bad connection still okay now maybe you didnt turn the ignition did the light dim no okay you got a bad starter. tap the starter did it start or want to start. if it did youll need a starter. okay now that starter has a fuseable link is it blown or any of the omega fuse blown cause that will make a not charge and a starter not start. By the way the terminal that goes to the relay box and fuses is it making good contact?
