Transmission shakey shifting

I own a 1998 dodge 1/2 ton 4x4 quad cab, granted its lifted 5'' with 35'' tires. The transmission was rebuilt by aamco in 2007. I was deployed for 15 months after that. the tranny has less than 15,000 miles on it sice the rebuild. when i take off from a dead stop and within the 1st 1/8th of a mile it shudders really hard for a good 5 seconds before finally getting in gear. This is with just a normal takeoff, if i get on it hard it shifts better but not great. I have changed the fluid and filter. Is there a cheap fix for this?

Had the same problem it was a broken OD accumulator piston spring in the valve body. Just buy a transco SK 45RFE shift kit ($ 45.00 ) it comes with all the accumulator piston seals an updated and much thicker and stronger accumulator retainer plate AND the kit includes a "spare" set of accumulator springs (1 large & 1 small) in case the spring(s) are broken ,which they do from timt to time. It is only 6 bolts to remove the valve body (carefully) and 7 screws to remove the accumulator plate to access the accumulator pistons and springs. The instructions included in the kit are excellent and very straight forword, you won't need all of the parts but save them they may come in handy some day later. DO NOT DO THIS WITHOUT A TORQUE WRENCH IT IS VERY EASY TO STRIP THE BOLTS AND SCREWS, but having said that it is easy to fix and you might as well change the fluid and filters at the same time.

OOps I didn't notice this was a 1998 I thought it said 1999 the fix I mentioned is applicable only to the 45 RFE 545 RFE and 68 RFE transmission models prior to these I am not as familiar with BUT it sounds like a valve body control problem not a drive train component problem though if the older transmisions use accumulator pistons and springs in the hydraulic shifting circuit(s) then I would look there it is something in the control mechanism and should be relatively easy to fix

It would be one of 2 things. Either the transmission is very low on fluid or the pump inside it has gone bad. Check the fluid first. If the pump is bad call the rebuild shop to see if there might be warranty left. Hope this helps.

remove the unit and check your wiring harness dodge uses a two part factory harness if the plug with all the speaker outputs came undone it would still turn on and function normal but you'd have no sound.
