1998 Mazda B4000 climate control fan

I own a 1998 Mazda B-4000. The climate control (fan switch) stopped working on the two lower speeds, but continues to work on the two highter speeds. How can I fix?

Have a 2009 Nissan Quest I can't turn the heat off. Just stays on a high level of blowing out heat .


If you have a fan that has different speed settings (1234, or low med high etc) and the only one that works is high - then the blower resistor pack has failed. If you have a climate control unit (where you just pick a temp you want) then the fan is controlled by the heating system and it sets fan speed. If you have climate control style try lowering the temp to a lower setting (current temp in vehicle) and see if fan slows down. If not then climate control unit or fan resistor bad. If dial type and you get nothing on lower settings (only high works like mentioned above) you need to change blower resistor. It is located under dash near the fan itself. Look for small unit bolted in duct near fan with wire plug going to it.

1998 dodge intrepid auto climate control. My heater will not turn off, and the fan is stuck on high, and also stuck on the cold temp. I replaced the climate control module and checked all the wiring....


the fan speed control not adjusting usually means the 'resister' is no longer working. Stuck on cold means the 'blend door actuator' is no longer functioning.

Mazda bravo 2.5TD blower fan only works on speeds 3 and 4. Is it the resistor or the fan motor


ballast resistor for sure as this lowers out put to blower motor and increases power as your select a faster setting balast resistor shoud be located on motor or near by hope this helps phil

I have a 2002 Elantra. Yestreday the lower fan speeds on the air conditioner fan stopped working (positions 1,2,3). The High speed (position 4) works. Any ideas how to correct?


The blower motor resistors or fan switch itself are defective.
High speed has no resistors B+ goes straight to blower motor.

Yes I would go with the switch, BUT, does it have a resistor bank? That is, how does it reduce the speed? Many systems use resistors to lower the speed. Burnt or bad connections can cause this as well.
You can test the blower motor by connecting direct power from a source like the cigarette lighter if you are handy.
Most of the time the lower speeds konk out but the high speed continues to work this is the resistor bank that goes out.

1998 Mazda B4000 (similar to Ford Ranger). Wipers, dome light and 4 wheel drive selector switch work intermitantly. I would like to know what is the problem and what parts should be replaced. Mike


With it being an intermittant problem that indicates a possible electrical short. It's not likely that any parts would need to be changed. I hope this is helpful.

Blower fan will not change speed or turn off and seems to be stuck in the 3rd highest position. Even when you turn the automatic climate control to the off position the fan continues to blow. Changing mode...


Switch needs replaced in dash. you will have to take it out of the car and put a new fan switch, should work in all positions, and since its stuck that would be what I would replace first, not sure on procedure. http://hyundaisonata.com

Hi, hope the folowwing will help i found on internet if not email me at globalsat1@gmail.com. My service manual say its in the upper leftside of the heaterbox. remove lower left dash trim panel (drivers) and pull out resistor pack.

Fixing BMW E36 Blower Fan Speed . . . DIY!
It has been two weeks since my blower fan stopped working correctly on the low speed options (1, 2 and 3 ). It only works on high speed (Option 4). At first, I thought that the problem was in the fan speed switch because I’ve seen this problem before and when I told my electrician about it, he disassembled the switch and tried to clean it. Of course this solution didn’t work. So, I’ve decided to dig for the solution myself and I found that this is a pretty common problem among E36 cars. The problem is that speed 1, 2 and 3 are controlled by something called (Final Stage Unit on digital climate control units, Blower Resistor Pack on analog climate control units). The 4th speed is actually uncontrolled, so, it simply bypasses the final stage or resistor pack units. That explains why the fan works on the 4th speed and not the other lower speed options. Anyway, I tried to find a DIY (Do It Yourself) procedure on how to fix this problem and I found one that was written by "Deem3" on bimmerforums (thank you Deem3 for the great write-up). Now take a look below. It’s a really simple procedure. I will be trying it this weekend to see how it goes. I will post more details about this job soon. Symptoms (2 cases):
- Digital Climate Control: All the lights on your digital climate control are working and the buttons respond but the blower doesn’t blow any air.
- Analog Climate Control: The blower doesn’t work except on the highest speed (4th position).To replace it, we need to take off the driver’s side knee bolster. This only requires you to remove two screws,one on the right side of the bolster and one on the left. Using the phillips screwdriver remove the following screws. Now remove the speaker and footwell light. Using the 10mm socket remove the 3 bolts holding the metal shield. And using the phillips screwdriver remove the obd2 port. Now you should be able to see the footwell air duct. Remove it by pulling it.
With everything out of the way you should now be able to see the defective final stage unit. Remove it using the torx-20 screw driver. Replace it with the new part and before you put everything back turn on your car and test the blower. If everything is ok proceed to put everything back, and enjoy the benefits of having a blower in your car again.

Air conditioning blower stays on at all times.


Per your description, I believe you may have a blower fan relay that is stuck closed.
Remove the relay from the under-hood fuse center and see if the fan stops.
If it does stop, put the relay in slowly and see if you here the relay "click" and the fan come back on.

make sure your brake adjuster is backed all the way off then gently tap all the way around the back to remove
