The truck latch is electronically activated. Have some one push the button while you observe the latch, you may the to remove the cover to see. The cable or the spring may have come unhooked and may just need to be re attached. Also check and see if this item was recalled by contacting the deal ship parts department with your vin.#. The fact that it clicks means power is getting there and the actuator is working. Also make sure everything is lining up sometimes it does not take much to bend the latch. Remember close the truck don't slam it.
The only way to open your trunk is to use the handle itself. If you unlock the car once (key fob), just the drivers side unlocks. If you unlock twice, both the doors and truck hatch unlock. But as far as there being a button in the cabin with which to open the trunk, there is none.
The actuator may sound as though it is working but the latch could be damaged or misaligned. Also, the actuator could be too weak to operate the latch. If it is necessary to replace the actuator, your Camry is old enough to make a junkyard a likely source.
I"m having trouble with locking and unlocking my hatch using my remote. I have flipped the white switch in the trunk and it acts as a child safety lock if flipped one direction. However I am not able to open the trunk this way. It acts as a permanent lock. So I figure the switch must be flipped the other direction and need to replace my actuator. Is this hard to do. It looks to me like it two switches holding a bracket to hold the actuator itself after plugging in the actuator from both sides. Is it really this simple?? Is there more to it???
Didn't know the hatchback has key hole. mine don't. Anyways. climb in it from the inside and see if you can manually unlock the hatch. It's a little white knob at the latch that moves from side to side...lock/unlock. good luck
