97 chevy cav popping noise
The pop sound is coming from the CV joint most likely, but if the splines of the drive hub or drive shaft are worn and slipping they will pop too.At a good shop you'll be looking at probably around $400-$500 it really depends on the shop, give or take with parts and labor, and they will inspect the drive hub also.Just because the joint is making a popping noise doesn't mean its going to fail anytime in the near future, the car will vibrate when the joint is going to fail,I'm telling you this so if your a bit short on funds and wondering if it needs to be done immeadiatley, this CV could last another 6 months or a year or even longer. If you do decide to replace it,get estimates from a few shops because the labor price can vary quite a bit, especially with the econmy the way it is,if you live in a metro area there are ussually shops that will specialize in driveshaft/CV replacement.I hop this helps
