Question about 1994 Subaru SVX

1 Answer

My 1998 outback will sometimes start and sometimes will not. There is power going to the battery and after 10+ tries the car may start. When shutting off the engine and trying to restart the car it repeats it again.

The car seems to run for a few weeks at a time and then this not starting problem happens. When I turn the key in the ignition, there is only 1 click and then nothing. If you wait awhile and keep on trying the engine, it will start on its own.

do you here a slipping noise just after you release the key from trying to start your car?...if you do, then your starter engage gear from the solenoid is bad or worn down...can you clarify in more detail?

The clicking sound is the starter solenoid on the starter, replace it, the contacts are burnt that engage and supply the starter motor with power to spin the engine over, this is a very common problem on Japanese starters.

How come my wagon won't start but only sometimes?

Sounds like weak connection somewhere,I would start by one at a time, clean by scraping the prongs of each fuse. If this does not resolve your issue go by one of the parts houses that provide free electrical and charging system checks

Get a $10 MAF CRC cleaner to clean MAF sensor and throttle body, start here first since it's cheap.

Car's power completely shut off when driving. 1998 Malibu

Problem is either the battery or the terminals that go on the battery. Remove and clean both terminals and if the problem persists replace the battery.

Is there a starter solenoid on a 1998 subaru impreza outback?

first the starter solenoid mostly attached on the starter motor , but sometimes it could be inside the starter motor . the clicking sound you hear is that the solenoid dont recieve enough power to close the contacts . that could happen because a dead battery , red batery red cable ( + ) dameged or not tighted enough . this link will help you http://www.samarins.com/glossary/starter.html if this helped you pls vote for me
