Your stoplight switch is not working properly. replace with a new one (about $7.00 at Napa). It's easy to replace. It is located under the dash, high up on the brake pedal arm. Get a needle nose and pull the pin out. Unplug the connector and put the new one in.

Won't go out of park did once after putting in a transmissuon now struck in park whats wrong

these cars have a safety lock that wont allow you to shift outta park unless your foot is on brake ,activated by brake light switch, i suspect you have a binding problem on your steering colum that is keeping solinoid that locks shifter handle engauged , these models are really tight on clearance on steering colums and you might have even bent it replacing transmission (happens really easy) I've done it!!

I can't move shifter

Assuming the key lock is turning correctly, it could be the brake pedal switch or the lock solenoid that locks the shifter into park.
You could try unlocking the key switch but not turning the switch on, then try moving the shifter. Sometimes the lock solenoid is not "locked" until you turn the key switch on.

1997 exploer wont come out of park

Usually the brake switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park.
Someone would need to check the solenoid with a meter.
Also could have tension on the shifter such as parking on a steep hill.

Can't get out of park, steering wheel lock

The park lock out is powered by the brake light circuit, so 1st thing to do is check and see if the brake lights work, if not you have found the problem. Repair the brake lights as needed. You can over ride the lock out by turning the key in the the switch just short of the spring loaded position that starts the car while wiggling the shifter.

When i start my wind star in park and apply brake it wont shift out of park

Hi, first check your brake lights. If they are not working, the likely problem is the brake light switch above the brake pedal.
The shifter has a solenoid that locks the shifter until you put your foot on the brake. If the brake switch fails or the fuse burns out, the brake will not signal the shift solenoid to unlock the shifter. If the brake lights are working, the problem may be the shift solenoid itself. The solenoid is at the base of the shifter.
Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

The gear shifter handle moves but the van stays in park . The gear shifter handle on the steering colum, will move up and down very loosely. The indicater for park, reverse, neutral, and drive will move to...

there is a cable attached to your transmission that is actuated with that lever. the cable has come disconected or has broken. open your hood and look for cable on top of your transmission to see if it is worn.broken ect. helps to have somebody move lever while u locate it if you are not sure what you are looking for.

Van won't lock into reverse or park all the time.

it is either the shifter or the cable, I would go with a broken part in the shifter linkage. Detrim the steering column and see what shows up, very easy just 4 screw I think.
