Why does my odyssey rear light not get bright when I press the brake?

My left rear light turns on when I have the running lights turned on, but it does not get brighter when I press the brakes like my right rear light does. Seems like it's not a burned out bulb, since it turns on when I have running lights on. Any ideas of what to check or how to fix it?

SOURCE: 1992 Honda Accord LX Brake Light Switch Repair

Of course you can make this repair! I'm wondering about the faulty bulb that shorted out all the brake lights...not sure if that's what happened. Your brake light switch is located on the brake pedal, up above where your foot goes. It has a plug in connector which you unplug, then loosen the locknut where it attaches to the pedal.Put in the new switch, lock nut 1st, then plug it in. Note that the locknut is the adjustment point that determines when your brake lights go on. Adjust the locknut so that the brake lights go on when the pedal is depressed within 1/2 an inch (13mm)of pushing down on it. If the switch is adjusted without enough play (say 1/8 inch or less), brake lights may flicker on and off when you go over a bump.If over 1/2 inch, brake lights might go on only if great force on pedal is used (or not at all, yikes!).For good diagrams of parts check out South Bay Honda (hondapartscheap)web site. You enter the year, model, engine, and you can scroll thru tons of parts. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to post it for me. countrycurt0

SOURCE: Rear brake lights do not work.

The brake light that is on the dash is for the emergency brake...When that light is on that is supposed to tell you that the emergency brake is applied if the brake is not applied then you need to service the emergency brake. And on the brake pedal there is a coupler that is hooked up to the pedal bracket that wire may be soft set try gently snapping it into place.

SOURCE: car brake lights won t turn off when car is shut down 1996 Honda Odyssey

It should be your brake light switch. There is a little plate welded to the arm of the pedal that has a hole with a rubber stopper. The rubber stopper is most likely missing, or damaged. You should be able to take a flashlight and see the plate and the switch. If the hole is plugged up, you will need the brake light switch, if not, replace the plug.

I think you either have a defective bulb socket or you still have a ground problem, that is the only thing that can cause this, the ground issue may be caused by the turn signal switch as well.

89 Honda Accord brake light and turn signal seem connected

Looks as though you have earthing problems.
I would make sure that the earthing is O.K on flasher and brake.
You would then find your symptom disappear.

Hope that sorts it.

Right tail light not working when pressing brake w/ lights on.

There should be at least 2 bulbs in the light assembly. One light is the light that is on when you turn on your headlights with out the brake pressed, the other light only lights up while you press on the brake. Make sure you are replacing the correct bulb. You may have been replacing the bulb that stays on. Your lights may be set up to turn off the light that stays on when the headlights are on while pressing the brakes.
