We always have the manifolds surface ground at a machine shop when we do these. The manifold will warp form heat cycling and needs to be flat to seal. Take it to a machine shop and they will now what to do.
To get a solution to this I would go to a volvo dealership and talk to a mechanic. Or I would go to a mechanic that specialises in volvo and talk to him. If you are still not happy get a repair manual (Haynes --Gregorys or original work shop manual.
Try replacing the intake manifold gasket. Take the opportunity to do all the things that are tough to do when the manifold is in place, like cleaning out all the vacuum ports and replacing the rear water temperature sensor. If you pull the manifold completely out (which is not necessarily required) clean out the oil mist separator as well.
Follow the exhaust manifold down to the tailpipe. The Oxygen sensor is located on the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe. There will be wires going to it.
