1999 Mazda 626 ES V6 - overheating when the ac is turned on.

  • ketchups Jun 28, 2009

Would that not cause it to overheat all of the time? Could it be an a/c cooling system problem? Have had several different responses when taken to the local mechanic, claiming a/c compressor/condensor/etc.. issue.

My 1999 mazda 626 6 cylinder overheats if traffic slows down for very long, stop for a train, etc. At other times the air coming out of the vents is very cold. I have added coolant several times.

Your radiator fan is probably failed. Pop open hood, watch temp rise, once past "normal " level teh fan should turn on. If not, you need to trouble shoot the rad fan. There should be heavy duty fuses and relays under the hood in an electrical distribution box. You should consult the owners manual or chart on the box lid. Of course the fan maybe bad itself. You can also try - turn on the AC, this will activate the 2nd (booster) fan, and should help prevent serious overheating but wont fix the underlying problem.
Good luck

Check the wires one at a time for oil on them when you remove them fron cylinder spark plug. If there is an excess of oil on them, they will short out to the housing under load and wii eventually kill the coil unit. They are not cheap, but if bad replace all at same time. Ford sells the wires and mazda. I would advise replacing the plugs with good plugs like ngk or denso. I will check again tomorrow to see if you need further help
