My ac in my 2001 civic isn't working the heater works but when I turn the ac button on it blows hot air. I have checked the fuses and attempted to use a sef freon bottle it wouldn't take the freon. Also...

You most likely out of freon. You need to purchase a single charge hose and 134a freon to charge the system. Those charge bottles are hard to get to work. When you start charging the ac system,be sure the engine is running, and the ac is on.Fan on high, and on recirculation. The ac clutch on the compressor will cycle on,and off, until enough freon is in the system.

AC cools then blows hot air, tempature needle goes up & down

Sounds like the thermostat is trying to stick, and is causing the engine to over heat, therefore condenser is not cooling the freon down enough to cool.Have the thermostat changed and the cooling system bled out, this is most likely the cause.

Have a dodge truck and a jeep cherokee with the same problem, system is charged and compressor is working but only hot air??

since the AC freon is held in the system by oversized tire valves; they leak.
Please check your pressure. If you try to refill; the air in the system; caused by the leak; will prevent the freon going in (air turns to ice) unless you vacuum evacuate the system or, you could have the system checked repaired and, refilled by a certified auto AC shop.

Where and how do you refill freon on a VW 2001 Jetta?

if the ac system was functioning under a vacuum (it should be), the can should have gotten cold, is there already pressure in the system before you tried ti fill? you have the correct connection if it had a blue cap. it sounds like a possable restricted oriface tube...the instructions will come with new part, USE CAUTION r-134 system repairs can be very dangerous, be sure to remove and store refrigerant before repair...good luck, marty

Ac compressor does not turn on when car has been sitting & it's hot outside. Works fine in the morning.

either the freon charge is about 1/3 low, or the expansion valve needs to be replaced. Freon is getting into the evaporator, but not in great enough volume to cool the air unless it is coming in cool to start with. check your ac charge, and if it is full, then have it emptied, change out the expansion valve, and recharge it

A/C blowing hot air. Compressor activates and system has pressure.

Could be the expansion valve. That's what allows the temperature to actually drop in the system - the contents of the AC system are under pressure, and are at a certain temperature. When the freon goes through the expansion valve, the pressure drops suddenly and dramatically, which "flash chills" the freon, allowing the air to blow cold. If it fails, you may get lukewarm air from the AC despite everything else working. Also though, check to see whether the AC evaporator fan (underhood) is working - on some cars, if it doesn't turn on, the compressor won't be run enough to cool the air.
