Can't turn key all the way on 1996 Toyota Camry.

When I put key in ignition 2 turn, it clicks right once & then stops. Seems like something's stuck. I can still lock & unlock steering wheel tho. I have 4 keys & they all turn 2 right once & stops. What might be the problem & part name? Thank you.

Is your steering wheel locked? Turn the key as much as you can, then turn the steering wheel and see if it releases the lock. You should be able to completely turn the key after this.

Does it have the theft deterrent system? If so keep jiggling until it turns try using the shifter button to allow u to shift gears with the push of that button good luck!

Why won't my key turn in my ignition? The steering column seems to be locked.

-Try this: Put key in the ignition and turn the column Left or right when you feel it turn then hold right there and now turn the key. Every thing should be free of move.

Good luck

The key wont turn , and the sterring is locked and I cant get it out of park

Get in car with right hand put key in ignition and keep slight pressure turning ignition switch toward on position. At same time turn or shake steering wheel from left to right to get the pressure off lock assembley. Once the pressure is off lock assembley you should be good to go.

1996 camry le 6 cylinder. cannot get ignition key to turn to start car. gear is in park and have tried adjusting steering wheel

Hi the steering lock could be causing you the problem try turning the steering wheel hard left whilst turning the key and do the same hard right.

it may be hard to turn but you should find once you have moved it slightly it will unlock allowing you to turn the key so dont adjust the steering wheel turn it to the right as if your trying to turn to the right and if this dont let the key turn turn the wheel to the left it only needs to move slightly to allow the steering lock to free the key,

doing the above should solve you problem

give me a shout back if you have any further problems ok

Key ignition is locked, steering wheel is not locked, and unable to put car in neutral- how can I turn car on?

try this..turn the steering wheel as hard as you can until it locks(any direction)then put key in ignition and holding wheel over (anyway)turn key to start car.then when you park up turn wheel over 1/2 turn to park...should work...(toyota have an antitheft steering lock)the wheel will turn when steering lock is on.rather than break lock.please do not try to see if it works....only works once...and not in handbook...

Key won't turn on ignition switch

1997 Toyota Camry Key Wont turn, Ignition Lock problem -1997 toyota camry FIXED!!! I see a lot of Douches with a capital D trying to charge people to fix this extremely common issue with this Camry ignition cylinder. OK pull the plastic guard off encasing the steering column. Get a phillips head screwdriver and remove the 2 screws holding the little off-white connector at the rear of the module(it has the wires to the ignition running to it). Get a pair of pliers or a small crescent wrench and while trying to turn the key use the wrench to turn the little rod sticking out of the back of the module. Make sure your turning it WITH the direction the key is trying to turn it. It should immediate be freed. Voila IT WORKS! AND THATS WHY PEOPLE DONT TRUST MECHANICS! HOW CAN YOU CHARGE SOMEONE FOR THAT INFO?

Very Very Common Do You Have A lot Of Keys On Your Key Ring? Excess Weight Will Cause Premature Ignition Wear. Try Spraying wd-40 On The Key And Inserting Over And Over Then Spray Again It Could Help Your Problem.
