Diy balancing a car wheel?

You can DIY this but it would be simpler, quicker and more accurate to get a tyre fitter to do it for you. They usually only charge a small fee to do it.
You will need a way of spinning the wheel and tyre freely at the angle it rolls at, without it wobbling. When set up like this the heaviest part of the tyre will always settle at the bottom so add the weight opposite at the top. This method is slow and very time consuming as you need to add small weights one at a time until it balances. Wheels often need weights at more than one place on the rim taking even more time to balance. Basically you have to guess what weight you need. A tyre fitter's machine will accurately mark the lightest points on the wheel and tell him exactly what weight it needs.

Why does steering wheel shimmy from 48 to 55 mph and also jumps up and down frequently?

The most common issue is tires and you said that it was speed balanced? How long ago? By whom? When tires are balanced there are weights that are clamped to the rim. If the weights are loose and fall off, the balance does no good. The speed is another issue, tires are balanced for a certain speed and until you reach that speed, it is usually not in balance. Lastly it could be brake rotors or a CV joint or bearing that is bad.

How do i know for sure if it is a 360 or a 318?

With out pulling the heads or sump and measuring the bore or stroke. A 318 is internally balanced and a 360 is externally balanced.
The harmonic balancer on a 360 is dished and a 318 balancer is flat.
The fly wheel on a 360 has a weight on it and a 318 does not have that weight.

Engine vibration intake

check to make sure you have the correct flywheel, these are matched to the engine and is done with or without weights depending on wether or not the engine is internally or externally balanced. also check your motor and transmission mounts.

Is my barracuda a 318 or 360

360 - harmonic balancer pulley you will see a weight cast into the design
318 - is internally balanced like most engines are, and its harmonic balancer pulley will be 'symmetrical' without any balance weight built-in

Having problems with balance

You need to explain this problem better. At this point I assume it is with your tires. Do you have steel or alum. rims are they stock or are they 22 inches more or less. Is the tire store having the problem with your car? FYI tire balancing needs to be done with dynamic and static balancing. If someone is trying to balance tires using stick-on weights so the weights won't show on the outside of the rim.? If so this is wrong. Weights should be installed on the outside and the inside at the edge of the rim where it meets with the tire. Hammered on weights not stick-on's. This needs to be done to insure dynamic and static balance is preserved. If you don't like the looks of a weight on the outside of the rim then you will have to live with the vibration. At the outrageous pricing of tires I prefer to see the weight.

Front Prop shaft bearing on freelander needs replacing again. Why?

Prop shafts are actually balanced, if the balance weight has fallen off it will keep damaging the bearing, check for a balance weight, it is like a flat piece of metal stuck to the prop, there may be more than one.

V8 motor viabrates when revving

Access and removal can be done from underneath. Remove all the belts. Remove the bolt from the center of the balancer. Then you will need to get a puller to remove the balancer. They can be a little pricey to purchase, but you need it. You can do it from the top, but you probably would need to remove the fan from the water pump to get enough room to work. It's your option.
