There's a low pressure switch on one of the aluminum tubings leading from the compressor. You can pop off the connector and jump it with a paper clip. Don't let it run long at all for you can cause damage to the compressor. Pick up a charge kit at Autozone for about $40 bucks. All instructions are there, it's quite simple nowadays.

On your gauge,is "red" high pressure or low pressure?
If you are seeing a high pressure on your low side connected gauge and the compressor is not running,that is a "full charge" or better stabilized in the system.If your compressor is not "kicking in" you may have a defective electrical component in the A/C system.With the engine running,you can jump 12v power the the compressor clutch momentarily just to see if it is working.Don't leave it jumped to long as the system is designed to cycle with pressure from the low side pressure switch which is the next place to check and the compressor can also be jumped at the low side switch.
If your "red" is low or no pressure,then you have a leak and repairs to the system to stop the leak will have to be made.You can add 134a at this time with the engine running and A/C requested,and as pressure rises in the A/C system,the compressor should "kick in" and cold air should start flowing in your dash vents.45 degrees at the dash vent airflow temp usually equals a full charge.
DO NOT add any aftermarket "134a" that shows an EXPLOSIVE label on it.These are not 134a and are usually butane and/or propane mixes that you MAY NOT want spraying on you in a collision/any situation where the A/C system has become ruptured/compromised.

If you do not have enough refrigerant in the system. The low pressure switch will prevent the compressor from engaging to avoid damage.
Check your pressure.
I don't recommend this, but you may need to jump your low pressure switch to get the compressor going to add more refrigerant to the system. But if your low on charge, it may be "best to take it to a shop to have them fill the system".
Hi, the way to get the compressor to come on is to short the connector to the pressure sensor on the return line. The sensor is along the same line you were trying to charge on. Just remove the connector and use a large paper clip to connect the terminals inside the connector. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.
the compressor may be low on freopn but, the fan problem is most likely the fan motor as it is the low temp fan and will run more often than both fans...to test see if you can switch the fan plugin to the other fan watch carefully that it does not get too hot as the second fan is a safety fan that works as high temp or when using the A\C
The first thing to check is if there is enough gas. The compressor will not work when the gas is low. There is a small inspection glass on the line. This needs to be clear. If you see streaks or bubbles means the gas is low. Never mind the pressure or wiring for now, Add one can of gas and this should get that first part done.
If you look on the low pressure side of the AC system you will see a plug that is incorporated in to the line. It will have two wires leading to it. Remove the plastic clip that attaches the two wires to the sensor and use a short piece of wire to connect the two terminals in side the plug by putting the ends into the cap. This will bypass the low pressure sensor and allow the AC clutch to engage and begin to cycle again. Remember this low pressure switch is there for a reason. If you don't add more r-134 to the system and allow the AC compressor to cycle you will destroy the compressor. You need to charge the system when you bypass the low pressure switch and get the system up to full charge status and reconnect the switch.
Try checking the spacing of the clutch of the compressor to your A/C...chances are the gap is too large and will not pull down to engage the compressor. That should eliminate the jump wire and keep your car snowing. No clutch to engage the compressor, no A/C.
