Don't know your experience level. 1st, look for the check engine light. 2nd, pop your hood and check all of your spark plug wires. Push each one to ensure contact. Find your fuel cut-off switch, reset it, with engine off. If you couldn't get to it, don't worry about it. skip that step if you have to. If you did reset it, Go to your gascap, don't laugh, go make sure it is threaded properly and is tight when seated. Toyotas need their gascaps on. Now start the engine.
If that solved it cool, if it didn't , proceed to step #3, Change your fuel filter!! If that isn't it then your going to inspect all of your fuel lines for pinches, dings etc. then we are going back to the engine to inspect the fuel injection system. I always check my injectors by listening with a stethoscope attached to a 3/16" stainless rod, I check the rest of my fuel system 1st. I start kind of backwards for a reason, everything goes from the gas station to your tank, through your tank to your pump to your filter through your lines to your injection manifold and finally to your injectors. There is dirt and other buildups which can always stand to be removed. If I have to replace or clean an injector I don't want the new stuff to get clogged also. Double labor sucks for me and a customer. Try these first and you'll probably solve your problem, it also helps to add as much relevant information as you can when posting a problem. Good luck

When my 1972 chevrolet 350 4 barrel is warmed up it acts like its not getting gas and jerks and eventually dies. if i wait a few minutes it will start up but after slight acceleration it starts it aga

Good chance it is not getting fuel, or enough fuel.
When the rig is cold, the choke is closed. As it warms up, the choke opens.
If the metering jets inside the carb are dirty, they may not be letting enough fuel into the barrels. You could also have a vac leak that is masked by the choke until the engine warms up.

When its just prior to red area for near empty gas it acts like its dying

Gas guages are not reliable, if it acts like it is dying in the area you stated, you are probably out of gas. Don't let it get to that point. Always try to make sure you have at least 1/4 tank according to the guage.
