Possibly shift interlock problem check the btsi fuse in the instrument fuse panel. There is a shift lock actuator in the column or center console that could be your culprit depending on if you have a column or floor shifter.

I think that you must have been using a doblicate key to start the engine it cannot be you ignition cylinder or swithch.. while now you will need to get it open in order to take out the key ..

Suggest disconecting the battery. Then you can work on the problem. it is not clear if the issue is the key stuck in the start position in the iginition switch or if the starter motor is stuck (running) after the car starts. If it the starter motor is running... Time for a new starter. If it is the ignition switch, try
pushing the key in and turning back off. Still stuck? Try pulling pn the key and turning off. Either way, if it is the key, yime for a new ignition switch.

If the engine will not crank, you would need to check for power from the battery to the starter. Is the security light on ?
Will it crank in neutral ?

Plenty of power turn key car just clicks 1999 pontiac grand prix

have you checked power and signal at the starter motor, the large wire @ the starter will have battery voltage at all times and the smaller "signal wire" will have power only when the ignition cylinder is being cranked, if both ok then you will have a stuck/seized solenoid on the starter . lightly tapping the starter motor while "cranking " will sometimes allow the vehicle to start.

Doesn't start, not even a cranking noise

If it does not crank, it could be the key switch, the neutral safety switch, or the starter.
While you are under the car you need to check to see if you have power on the purple wire at the starter solenoid when the key switch is in the start position. That is power coming from the key switch thru the neutral safety switch that energizes the starter solenoid.

91 pontiac grand prix se key stuck in ignition

91 Grand Prix SE: If you can turn car off with the key, but can't get the key out - first thing you should check is to see if the button on the shifter is fully releasing (the button on the shift handle you have to push to shift out of Park).

Have a 1993 pontiac grand prix 3.1L is very slow to start, new battery, alternator.Cables ar all clean and tight. Seems to start better after I leave the key on for a few minutes before turning the ignition...

It could be a failing starter or starter solenoid; the latter may be integrated with the starter. Call one of the auto parts chain stores near you and ask if they check starters (free) and whether they must be removed for testing. You wrote that the cables were in order, does that include the heavy positive cable to the starter (or solenoid if separate) and the negative cable to the block? These are both subject to the same problems as the battery ends of them, just tougher to reach. Also, with a separate solenoid, it too has connections that may be poor.

2004 Pontiac grand prix gtp won't start- fully

You need a new starter solenoid. It is essentially a heavy duty remote switch that is activated by your ignition key switch. The solenoids get stuck or don't conduct well after 6 to10 years.

Key stuck

Hello. Your problem is in the area called Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI). The shifter assembly in the console has a switch-solenoid (shift interlock) that has to send a release signal to the key release solenoid in the steering column. Replacement of the shifter assembly or shift interlock solenoid normally resolves the problem. regards, Joe

04 pontiac grand prix wont start.

first remove the battery and take it to a auto parts place and have them check it. move on from there. if the battery is good the do a starter draw test. take a meter and hook it to your battery. now have someone try and start the car. if the voltage on the battery drops from 12.8 to below 9 volts then the starter is bad. if the voltage doesnt drop much at all then its prolly the solenoid both of which require starter replacement since most solenoids are on starters. if still nothing then check ignition switch. but before anything else ensure vehicle is in park. if it is in part use a meter to test neutral safety switch.

Key stays in ignition

if the key won't turn all the way off...it's probably a bad lock cylinder.
