Question about 1996 Volvo 960

When the engine is hot 5.cylinder does not work properly.Spark plugs was changed.İgnation coil and compression was checked.There is No problem.My mechanıc is suspicuis about ignation wires and ignaion computer.Can anybody help.Thanks.

    But my car is olso has LPG system. The main problem is spark plug does not work after heating.

Have a check too on yr 2 nos of Ignition Circuit Units. They are fitted to the either side of the intake manifold just below the throttle body. The wire harness to check are the connecting leads to each ignition coils.

Check the fuel pressure and injectors also, try adding injector cleaner to your gas for the next three gas tanks. Start with that, Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted.

    Did your mechanic check the ignition module??? As the Module heats up it may start to fail. Check the wires and connections, if everything looks good, then change the ignition module. keep me posted.

2003 sorento 3.5 cranks won't start code 300 302 304 306


The code 300 is a Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire....a 302 is Cylinder # 2 misfire detected. ..and the same for 304 and 306..being 304 is cylinder 4 misfire and 306 is cylinder 6 misfire...All these at the same time normally is a faulty coil pack..,and or faulty coils...spark plugs.,plug wires.....It should be running horribly or barely ....However it could be internal losing compression.....It could just need a good tune up.....Disconnect battery before changing coils,wires..,or plugs in order to clear the fault codes.....

My 1996 Taurus when I press the gas pedal when cold it sputters and lacks power. When it warms up it runs great.


Possible causes - Faulty spark plug 5
- Clogged or faulty fuel injector 5
- Faulty ignition coil 5
- Fuel injector 5 harness is open or shorted
- Fuel injector 5 circuit poor electrical connection
- Ignition coil 5 harness is open or shorted
- Ignition coil 5 circuit poor electrical connection
- Insufficient cylinder 5 compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Intake air leak

The P0305 code means that the cylinder 5 is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks an if no leaks are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs on cylinder 5. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem, see "Possible Causes



When is the code detected? Engine Cylinder 5 is Misfiring.


When a misfire occurs, engine speed will fluctuate. If the engine speed fluctuates enough to cause the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor signal to vary, the Engine Control Module (ECM) can determine that a misfire is occurring.

Your going to be spending plenty

You have to diagnose & correct your cylinder misfires
& make sure you have proper fuel control -- BEFORE--
you replace the Exhaust Converters & Oxygen Sensors,
ruined from the misfires

Properly diagnosed & everything done correctly,your looking
at about $1,000 & that is normal & those thing happen, on ALL
vehicle,even if you do all your own work

One possibility for a misfire, when you have spark on a cylinder, is that the cylinder may have low compression and thus very poor power. This will cause a slight stumble in the engine which is picked up by the crank sensor as a misfire. Check the compression on the number four cylinder and compare it to the others. All cylinders should have approximately the same compression You could have a burnt valve or worn valve seat.

Check this SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT - REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Remove the ignition coils (lines at end this document), then return here once you have gotten the Coil
Packs off and precede with step 2 from here.
2. Clean the spark plug recesses with low pressure air. CAUTION: Wear safety glasses
when using compressed air, as flying dirt particles may cause eye injury. NOTE:
Clean the spark plug recess area before removing the spark plug. Failure to do so could
result in engine damage because of dirt or foreign material entering the cylinder head, or
by the contamination of the cylinder head threads. The contaminated threads may prevent
the proper seating of the new plug. Use a thread chaser to clean the threads of any
contamination.
3. Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head. NOTE: Allow the engine to cool before
removing the spark plugs. Attempting to remove the spark plugs from a hot engine may
cause the plug threads to seize, causing damage to cylinder head threads.
4. Inspect the spark plugs.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Measure the spark plug gap on the spark plugs to be installed. Compare the measurement
to the gap specifications. NOTE:
• Use only the spark plugs specified for use in the vehicle. Do not install spark
plugs that are either hotter or colder than those specified for the vehicle. Installing
spark plugs of another type can severely damage the engine.
• Check the gap of all new and reconditioned spark plugs before installation. The
pre-set gaps may have changed during handling. Use a round feeler gage to ensure
an accurate check. Installing the spark plugs with the wrong gap can cause poor
engine performance and may even damage the engine.
2. Install the spark plugs to the cylinder head. NOTE:
• Be sure that the spark plug threads smoothly into the cylinder head and the spark
plug is fully seated. Use a thread chaser, if necessary, to clean threads in the
cylinder head. Cross-threading or failing to fully seat the spark plug can cause
overheating of the plug, exhaust blow-by, or thread damage.
• Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten the spark plugs to 18 N.m (13 lb ft).
3. Install the ignition coils.

IGNITION COIL(S) REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.
2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the oil pressure sensor (2).
3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers (1) from the power steering pump (2).
4. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (1, 4) from the following:
• The exhaust camshaft position (CMP) sensor (5)
• The camshaft position (CMP) actuator solenoid valve (6)
5. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer (2) from the camshaft cover (3).
6. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors from the following:
• The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor (1)
• The fuel injector harness (2)
• The ignition coils (4)
• The heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) (5)
7. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the intake camshaft position (CMP) sensor.
8. Carefully disengage the engine wiring harness conduit from the camshaft cover, and position aside.
9. Remove the ignition coil bolts.
10. Remove the ignition coils from the camshaft cover.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the ignition coils into the camshaft cover. IMPORTANT: Ensure the ignition coil seals are properly seated to the camshaft cover.
2. Install the ignition coil bolts. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Tighten the ignition coil bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
3. Attach the engine wiring harness conduit to the camshaft cover.
4. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the intake CMP sensor.
5. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors to the following:
• The ECT sensor (1)
• The fuel injector harness (2)
• The ignition coils (4)
• The HO2S (5)
6. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (1, 4) to the following:
• The exhaust CMP sensor (5)
• The CMP actuator solenoid valve (6)
7. Connect the engine wiring harness retainer (2) to the camshaft cover (3).

Check engine light on . will not pass DEQ code po 304


hoopers51, Code 304 is for a misfire detected on cylinder #4. Check the wire and the spark plug for that cylinder. Make sure that there is no corrosion in the boots of the wire and see if the spark plug is fouled up, or wet with gas. If the plug is fouled (a normal firing plug will have a grayish color to it) clean it and replace it. If the wire is bad then replace it. Make sure that there is no corrosion on the coil terminal when you pull the wire off. You might want to test the coil if you have an inline spark tester. These can be purchased very cheaply at any auto part store. Also what you can try is to remove the plug on the #4 injector when the engine is running. DO NOT try this with the spark plug wire. (Do this when the engine is off) When you disconnect the injector you will hear a misfire if it is working properly and this will tell you that the injector is not the problem. If there is no change then you should check for power to the injector. (once again, when the engine is running) The injector on that cylinder may be weak and is leaking. This will dump too much fuel into that cylinder causing the misfire and you will have a wet spark plug. All of these, a bad wire, a bad spark plug, a leaky injector or one with no power, or a bad coil will cause a misfire and will increase the HC's on an emission test. Good luck with this.

Can someone tell me what check engine code P0 304 means?


You have a misfire on cylinder 4 that is serious enough to store a code. If the check engine lamp flashes while you drive, it is worse, and is CATALYST DAMAGE level. This can be caused by loss of spark, loss of fuel, vacuum leak, wiring, and a dozen others. Check if spark reahes the plug, check for injector pulse, check for carbon tracking or fouling on the plug...work your way up.

How do i change the spark plugs on a 2003 kia rio


INSPECTION

1. Disconnect high-tension code from spark plug.
2. Remove the spark plug.
3. Connect the spark plug to a high tension code.
4. Hold the spark plug with insulated pliers 5~10mm from a ground.
5. Crank the engine and verify that there is a strong blue spark.
If there is no spark, inspect the following points.

REMOVAL

Do not attempt any maintenance on spark plug if engine is hot.
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Carefully remove high-tension leads.
3. Use compressed air to blow any dirt or debris from around spark plug hole.
4. Check that spark plug fits squarely in spark plug socket and remove spark plug.

Raise a vehicle and install SST(OK552 131 001) in order to replace cylinder 2, 4, 6 spark plug.

INSTALLATION

1. Install spark plug into cylinder head.

Tightening torque : 18~22lb-ft (25~30N·m, 2.5~3.0kg-m)

2. Reconnect high-tension leads.
3. Reconnect negative battery cable.
