BMW 316 L reg, car stalls and dies when changing

BMW 316 L reg, car stalls and dies when changing down approaching a junction, I have to leave it for a number of hours, then it will start. This is doing my head in.

Can you please look on the gas struts that hold the bonnet up and tell me the model should be something like EXX XXX.

I had a friend who bimmer did this. It was the sensor that goes to the air cleaner. I can't remember what is is called specifically, but check with your BMW parts man and he will know.
